Everyone tries to choose reliable equipment that will last longer without breakdowns. Unfortunately, even dishwashers from the German company Bomann are prone to malfunctions. Bomann dishwasher errors help to understand what is the cause of the malfunction. But the fact is that the PMM of this brand has only three types of codes that do not fully reflect possible problems. How to restore the work of equipment?
How are Bomann fault codes deciphered?
Thanks to the electronic control of the Bomann dishwasher, they have a self-diagnostic function. Therefore, in the event of a malfunction, the technician stops work and displays error codes on the screen. In addition, indicators inform about the breakdown. What does the appearance of the symbols on the display mean:
- E1 (the quick wash light flashes on the screen). The meaning of the code is as follows: there were problems with the water supply to the bunker. Perhaps the water was turned off, the hose or filter was clogged. Of the serious problems, a breakdown of the filling valve or pressure switch could happen.
- E4 (the signal of economical washing flashes). The PMM bunker is full of water, a leak is likely. What does it mean? Dishwasher drain, sewage, pump impeller could become clogged. Failure of the pump, the control module is also not excluded. In case of leakage, it is worth checking all connections and seals.
- E8 means that the control valves are faulty. Contact the service center.
How to fix the problem with your own hands? Do not rush to immediately disassemble the machine, start by rebooting. The electronic control also fails, causing a code to be displayed on the screen. In such situations, a reboot will help. Here’s how to restart PMM:
- Unplug the dishwasher from the socket.
- Wait 10-15 minutes.
- Connect the equipment to the network.
If after that the error no longer appears on the scoreboard, then there is nothing to worry about. If the problem recurs, then it is worth taking decisive action.
Bomann Dishwasher Troubleshooting
In addition to the above problems, the Bomann dishwasher is also subject to other breakdowns. Eliminating them is not so easy, but there are times when the problem is hidden in improper operation. It is enough to change one point in the usual use of the dishwasher, and the equipment will work like clockwork. That is why the PMM is accompanied by instructions that must be followed.
Causes of breakdowns of the Bomann dishwasher
What should I do if the machine stops working and there is no fault code on the display? You will have to look for the cause yourself, and we will show you how to fix it.
Here are the most common breakdowns:
- The dishwasher does not turn on. The reason may be a power outage, a violation of the integrity of the wires, plugs or sockets. A serious problem is the failure of the control module. Most often, it suffers from moisture ingress or power surges in the network.
- Water heating does not work. Why is this happening? It’s all about a malfunction of the heating element (heater). Water containing salts passes through the flow heater every day. Being deposited on the heating element, they form a layer of scale, which leads to overheating and combustion of the part. The temperature sensor may also be broken.
It looks like a flow heater
- Improper installation and connection of the PMM leads to various problems. This includes the lack of drainage of water, leakage, poor fit of the door to the body.
Let us consider in more detail each of the breakdowns, as well as options for their elimination. Remember that if your machine is under warranty, you should not open it yourself. It is better to contact the master.
Dishwasher won’t start
What to do in this case? First check:
- Availability of electricity in the room.
- The serviceability of the plug, socket, the integrity of the cord.
- Does the power button stick.
A mechanical or touch button should be checked for good contacts. If they are burnt, then it is enough to strip the wires to restore operation. Otherwise, you will have to completely change the part.
To make sure there are problems with the control module, professional diagnostics are needed. But you can inspect the element for damage and burns yourself. How to proceed:
- Disconnect the equipment from the network.
- Open the door and loosen the screws around the inner perimeter.
- Unscrew the upper bolts completely, remove the control panel.
Panel detachment
- There is a black wire from the panel to the sensor that needs to be disconnected.
- Now unscrew the screws holding the module and also disconnect the wiring.
Wires that need to be disconnected
You can inspect the module. Noticed burnt areas? Send the module to a service center for repair or call the wizard. This method will help especially incredulous users who want to independently verify that the element is broken.

Water is not poured into the PMM
If the E1 breakdown code is displayed on the screen or you notice the absence of water inlet, then make sure that:
- There is water in the tap. Otherwise, you will have to wait for it to be submitted.
- The shut-off valve is open at full capacity. Perhaps it was accidentally blocked.
- The water supply hose is in the normal position (not kinked).
Everything is fine? Then take decisive action. Start by checking the system for blockages.
- Disconnect the hose from the body. If it is connected through the inlet valve, then pull out the filter mesh.
How to take out the filter
- Rinse the parts under the pressure of water.
Another cause of the problem is valve failure. The pressure of the water during the supply helps to open the damper in the valve. If it is broken, then the whole mechanism will have to be changed. The same applies to the electromagnetic part, through which the part receives commands from the control board. To understand that the valve is faulty, diagnose as shown in the video:
There is a lot of water in the PMM tank
A fault code indicates a problem, or water overflow becomes apparent. The first step is to clean the drain system, which is often clogged with debris, food debris and napkins, and fragments of dishes are not excluded. How to fix the problem yourself:
- Open the PMM door and take out the baskets.
- Remove the filter as well as the metal mesh behind it.
- Rinse the parts with running water.
- Remove water from the hole behind the filter with a sponge.
- Inside you will see a plastic pump cover. Pull it to the side, then towards you and remove.
This is how the cover is removed
- Clean the impeller from foreign objects. Be sure to use gloves, the impeller is often blocked by pieces of glass or bone.
Next, inspect the drain hose. Is it properly positioned and connected? If the drain is high, then the pump may not be able to handle the load. If everything is fine with the hose and it is not clogged, go to the PMM pump. There is an element in the assembly with a flow heating element. To replace it, you will have to disassemble the car a little:
- Turn the dishwasher on its side.
- Remove the bottom cover, which can be snapped on.
- Disconnect the wires from the pump.
- Unclench the hose clamp, remove it from its place.
metal clamp
- Turn the pump counterclockwise.
PMM pump
- Install the new part and connect in reverse order.
This video guide will help you:
If a leak is noticed, then carefully inspect the case. Back leak? Check drain hose fittings. Flow ahead? Make sure that the door fits snugly against the body and that the seal is not deformed. Tighten all available clamps and connections.
TEN does not heat
Why does the heater fail? Mainly due to the poor quality of tap water, as a result of which a layer of scale forms on the surface of the parts. The thicker the layer, the lower the thermal conductivity. Therefore, the element overheats and burns out.
Another reason is power surges in the network. It is not in vain that when connecting large-sized equipment, it is recommended to install a voltage stabilizer. To replace the heating element, do this:
- Disconnect the heating element from all communications.
- Remove the baskets from the hopper, pull out the atomizer by pulling it towards you.
Sprinkler in tray
- Remove the filter from the tray and the mesh behind it.
- Loosen the heating block fixing screws.
- Turn the PMM on its side, remove the bottom. There you will see an assembly consisting of a pump, a heating element and nozzles.
- Disconnect the wiring from the heater, rotate and remove the pump.
Heater wiring
- Disconnect all fittings and hoses.
- Take out the old heater and install the new one in reverse order.
Photograph the location of the wires so that after dismantling, you can correctly connect the chips.
Select a new element with the same number as the previous one. You can even go to the store with the old heating element so as not to miscalculate.
To avoid problems with improper installation and connection, seek help from specialists. So you save the warranty and get rid of unnecessary problems. Here are the basic rules that every user must adhere to:
- Clean dishes from food debris before loading.
- Arrange instruments in the hopper so as not to interfere with the rotation of the atomizers.
- Select the correct washing program according to the type of crockery.
- Refill the salt reservoir regularly. The tool not only protects PMM parts from scale, but also allows you to get clean devices without streaks.
- Wipe the seals and leave the door open for a while after each wash.
- Clean the drain filter at least once a week.
Stick to the basic guidelines and you will be able to avoid common problems that users face. For replacement, select only original components, then the dishwasher will last more than one year.
