The fact that the boy managed to survive is called a miracle by the doctors. The kid turned out to be a real fighter.
Theo Fry was born in May 2017. For his parents, he became the fourth child: Fove and Stephen had two daughters and a son. The delivery went well, there were no complications or surprises. On the third day, mother and baby were discharged home as expected. And on the eighth day, Theo was in intensive care.
At first, the mother noticed that the child had become very lethargic – even taking into account the fact that newborns sleep peacefully most of the time. But not to call an ambulance because of this? But then the baby’s skin began to turn blue, then turned gray. There was no time for reflection: Fauve called the rescue service. As the doctors later said, if she had not done this. Theo wouldn’t have lived until the next day.
At the hospital, a team of 40 doctors was waiting for the baby. Heart failure – the diagnosis was made. The kid needed an urgent operation. But the child’s condition was too unstable. It took four days just to get Theo ready for the operation. The boy first appeared on the surgical table when he was only 11 days old.
“It turned out that Theo had a very severe congenital heart defect – an interrupted aortic arch. Because of this, the heart is not able to work normally, “- said Stephen Fry, the boy’s dad.
The open heart surgery was very difficult. At some point, the tiny heart stopped and the doctors had to resuscitate the child. The parents, who had been watching the operation all this time, prayed that the sigh of their precious baby would not be the last.
After the operation, Theo spent three months in the hospital. At this time, he contracted sepsis and barely got out – he had another cardiac arrest. Then everything seemed to work out. Theo was discharged home. But after a few weeks he returned. It turned out that the child had a monstrous arrhythmia, the pulse was beating at an extreme speed. And this time Theo was in the hospital for six months.
Three heart attacks, resuscitation. And then came the worst night in the family’s life: their nine-month-old son suffered 25 heart attacks in one day! He remained alive only by a miracle.
“It was terrible. Theo had seizure after seizure, and there was nothing I could do to help him. Doctors too – I heard the nurses whispering in the staff room, ”recalls Theo’s mother.
The boy needed surgery again. Again he was on the surgical table. The surgeons found that Theo’s left ventricle was covered with scar tissue. The operation lasted nine hours – the doctors managed to fix everything. After that, the baby quickly recovered. Soon he was discharged.
Now Theo is already 19 months old, and only the scars on the boy’s chest remind of the horror experienced. And his mom calls herself “the proud mother of a superhero fighter.” And she never tires of thanking the doctors who did the impossible to save her son.
