Prof. Tim Spector of Kings College London and his team found that most of the 21 symptoms of COVID-19 infection resembled the common cold, Australian media reported on Friday.
- In the first months of the pandemic, when the Wuhan virus was responsible for the infection, the main symptoms of COVID-19 were fever, weakness, cough and shortness of breath
- With time, however, began to pay attention to less typical symptoms – loss of smell and taste, “brain fog” or the so-called covid fingers
- Specialists point out that the symptoms of the iDelta mutation – apart from fever and shortness of breath – also include runny nose, headache and stomach discomfort.

“People need to find out immediately that there are not only the four most common symptoms of COVID-19 (persistent cough, temperature, loss of taste and smell – PAP),” explains Professor Spector, who runs the Covid Symptom Study app.
“In our app, the most common symptoms recorded were headache, runny nose, sneezing, fatigue, sore throat, which for many people will seem like a common cold,” she explains.
- What are the symptoms of the Coronavirus Delta mutation? [WE EXPLAIN]
Symptoms can vary in characteristics depending on the level of the infected person’s immune defense. It is extremely important whether you are fully vaccinated or with just one dose, or whether you acquired immunity through COVID-19. It is also unclear whether the symptoms are different due to infection with the new Delta variant. “To find out, we need more data,” explains Spector.
So far, the research team has managed to create a list of 21 symptoms, including: chills, sudden loss of orientation, rash, changes in the mouth and tongue, chest and muscle pain, diarrhea, hoarse voice, shortness of breath or even rash with with swelling on and around the toes. “If you have these symptoms, get the test and stay home,” Professor Spector recommends.
