2021 culinary trends

Every year we see new culinary trends. Some are permanent while others are seasonal. What will we eat next year? What culinary novelties will hit the market? How will the restaurants surprise us? Here are culinary predictions for 2021 by the editors of the Polish culinary publication MojeGotowanie.pl

Eat your food first, and then … your dishes

According to the editorial board, edible food is a trend that has been increasingly penetrating our daily life for some time. In the coming year, edible containers will become even more popular and widespread.

Ukrainian inventors keep up with the times in this matter. So, we talked about Petr Bobonich, who invented eco-dishes from unusual raw materials, as well as about start-ups from Sumy with their edible bags. And, of course, the original and already implemented idea of an edible cup for coffee impressed us especially.

Indeed, the market for edible tableware continues to grow. Bran plates, bowls and cutlery are now available for purchase. Such dishes are very durable and completely biodegradable, so even if we do not try to eat cutlery, these dishes will be environmentally friendly. After all, bran plates and cutlery decompose in just 30 days, and plastic ones in 500 years! Edible meals can be safely reheated in the oven and microwave.

Homemade food – definitely yes!

Homemade food is expected to become a major trend in 2021. While this trend is nothing new to our mums and grandmothers, 2020 has brought us back to our roots.

Although we have been going to homemade food for a long time, its popularity has been growing in the last 10 years. And we are talking not only about homemade meals, but also about homemade cheese, bread and cold cuts.

Last year, due to the realities of the pandemic, was an opportunity to develop culinary skills. Many of us, being in home quarantine, began to spend more time in the kitchen. The positive effect of this difficult time was the return to the tradition of baking homemade bread or jam. Many have discovered their culinary passion and started culinary experiments.

So let’s appreciate and sustain this remarkable trend. Homemade products are a return to the kitchen of our grandmothers and a tribute to tradition. Aside from the obvious taste and health benefits, homemade foods are a huge pleasure.

Eat and save the planet

The growing understanding of ecology has been an incentive for many of us to change our eating habits. For the sake of our planet, more and more people are deciding to give up meat in favor of plants. This trend primarily involves balance, not revolution, and a gradual process of nutritional change. This is not about drastically changing the diet and completely eliminating animal products, but about reducing their consumption and replacing them with more vegetables and fruits.

Climatic diet also means seasonality. Local products are much healthier and richer in nutrients. Moreover, by buying domestic products, we support domestic producers. By using local delicacies, we take care of our own health and the economy of the country at the same time.

Meat substitutes

“Meat without meat” is a strong trend in the coming year. Moreover, vegetable substitutes for fish can already be tried abroad, and soon they will appear on our tables. “Fake Shrimp” or “Artificial Tuna” are just some of the plant-based suggestions. So time is getting ready for new tastes. Meatless chicken and vegan seafood sound futuristic, but are becoming more and more popular not only among vegetarians and vegans.

Recall that earlier we shared our assumptions about what the food of the future will be, and also talked about which tea was the most fashionable in 2020.
