Dishwasher leaks are a common problem. In most cases, the cause is the wear of the gum on the car door. The problem must be eliminated in a timely manner and not pulled until the final breakdown of the equipment. The solution is to replace the dishwasher seal. How to do this, we will tell in the article.
Signs of seal wear
The main function that PMM door rubber performs is to ensure that the door closes as tightly as possible. Therefore, if damage appears on the part, a leak will definitely make itself felt. At first, you will notice only a few drops of water on the floor after washing. But if the problem is not solved in time, most likely, soon, instead of drops under the dishwasher, you will already see a puddle of water. And since the equipment is powered by electricity, this situation cannot be considered safe.
If the seal has become unusable, the door itself may not close, therefore, you will not be able to start the sink.
The control module will not respond to the command to start the program, since it does not receive a signal to close the door.
Repairing this part is a simple procedure that is easy to do on your own. The main thing is to be consistent in your actions. Therefore, we suggest that you follow the step-by-step instructions below.
How to replace door rubber
The procedure for repairing a worn gasket on the door of any dishwasher, be it Bosch, Beko or Candy, consists of two stages. The first includes the replacement of the upper seal, the second – the lower. It is better to start repairs from the top, as this procedure is easier. You don’t even need any additional tools. But first things first.
It is better to replace two door gaskets at the same time, even if only one seal is damaged.
Before starting the repair, find out what tools will be needed for this procedure. Required details:
- new door gum;
We recommend not to take the first suitable spare part for your PMM. It is better to buy an original part in a specialized store, as different brands and models of dishwashers have different sizes of gum.
- work gloves;
- cotton buds;
- dry sponge;
- a hairdryer;
- ordinary tweezers or any other tool that can hook and remove the gum;
- Phillips screwdriver (for unscrewing the mounting bolts).
Now you can start repairing the dishwasher. Proceed as follows:
- Disconnect the equipment from the power supply and water supply networks.
- Fully open the PMM door.
- Pull out the loading baskets and trays.
- Place your fingers on the gasket at the top of the camera and pull it out of the recess.
- Wipe the indentations with cotton swabs, then with a dry cloth. By removing excess moisture and dirt, you will ensure that the new part fits properly and is properly sealed.
- Insert a new part.
Make sure that the elastic “sits” tightly into the recess. Now we start repairing the lower rubber. Proceed like this:
- Take a screwdriver and unscrew the mounting bolts that hold the front panel of the PMM.
- Remove it from the latches and put it aside.
- The rubber band is partially visible. Therefore, take tweezers, pry the rubber and pull it out.
- Clean the recess from dirt and moisture residues with cotton swabs. You may need to use detergent to remove dirt.
- Unpack the new part. If there are creases on it, remove them with a hair dryer or a heat gun.
Attention! Do not use high heat when heating rubber with these devices, as there is a risk of damaging the part itself.
- Install the new rubber by pushing it in as far as it will go. Make sure that it lies evenly in the recess and does not go beyond the edges of the PMM loading chamber.
Follow the location of the transverse slot, which is on the seal. When installing the spare part, it must be located to the right of the chamber door.
- Replace the front panel and close the camera.
After all the procedures, leave the door in the closed position for a couple of hours so that the rubber is tightly fixed.
Perhaps, in the first days of operation of the dishwasher, the door will be tightly closed. You don’t need to worry. This is a normal occurrence after a part has been replaced.
Sealant Care Tips
The rubber gasket is in daily contact with water: it either gets wet or dries out. This leads to the formation of cracks that violate its tightness. Therefore, it is important to properly and regularly care for the equipment, then the service life of rubber gaskets will increase significantly. To avoid such a breakdown in the future, follow two simple rules for operating the dishwasher:
- Leave the chamber open after each wash cycle. So excess moisture will evaporate faster.
- Wipe the door rubber thoroughly with a dry cloth.
Such actions will take you only a couple of minutes, but will save the gum from rapid wear.
Installing a new PMM door gasket is not difficult. The main thing is consistent actions and the right choice of spare parts. Then even an inexperienced master will easily fix such a problem.
