2 methods of installing a dishwasher in an IKEA furniture set

There is nothing difficult in embedding a dishwasher. But on one condition – if the kitchen furniture is made to order and takes into account all the features of the installed equipment. We will learn how to install a dishwasher in Ikea, a modular kitchen of a popular brand.

What is the Ikea brand?

IKEA is a company with Swedish roots. Its full name is IKEA International Group. Owns the largest retail chain that sells furniture and household goods.

IKEA kitchens are versatile, mobile and practical furniture. This is a kind of constructor from which you can assemble a kitchen set in accordance with your needs. A modular kitchen allows you to assemble headsets of different layouts and functionality.

IKEA sells not only furniture, but also various household appliances, including dishwashers (PMM). The manufacturer of dishwashers is the Swedish company Electrolux. Interestingly, the warranty for such equipment is 5 years, while dishwashers manufactured under the Electrolux brand name are warranted for only 1 year.

How to build in the kitchen IKEA PMM of the same brand

The Ikea dishwasher can be placed in any way – under the countertop, in a closet or in any other convenient place. When installing the device, it should be noted that there should not be more than 1,5 m to the drain point – so that the pump is not overloaded, pumping out dirty drains.

Embedding order:

• Preparing the cabinet in which the device is to be installed. To do this, unscrew the screws that secure the countertop. Unscrew the ties connecting the adjacent walls. When the fasteners are unscrewed, the cabinet can be removed.
• Next, you need to disassemble and prepare the box for the typewriter. The removed cabinet is disassembled, the back wall is removed – it is not needed. You only need side walls and a door. The bottom part is also not needed. Only the side elements remain.
• Make holes for the drain hose, power cable and water supply.
• Then the closet is assembled. The side walls and the door are attached to the lower elements of the base. To simplify the assembly of the structure, the walls are screwed to adjacent cabinets with screeds. That’s it – you can build a dishwasher into the IKEA kitchen.

The machine is inserted into the cabinet, bringing communications through the holes in the walls. By adjusting the legs, set the device to the level. Remains only:

• connect the hose to the water supply system;
• crash into the sewer system;
• connect the wiring to the electrical panel or directly to the outlet.

Now you can perform the first launch. Do it without dishes. But it is necessary to fill in the detergent – in order to rinse the inside of the device and get rid of technical odors.

The nuances of embedding dishwashers of other brands

When the kitchen is made to order, there are no difficulties during installation. With Ikea, this is the case – if you buy a dishwasher of the same brand along with the kitchen, the installation will be easy. When embedding machines of other brands – for example, from Bosch, Smeg, Hansa, difficulties appear at the final stage – when hanging the facade.

The source of the problem when embedding a “foreign” dishwasher in Ikea is the facade is too high. Perhaps the manufacturer deliberately made it so that only PMMs produced under his own brand could be installed in his kitchen without problems.

In practice, when building a “foreign” machine into a modular kitchen, the following situations are observed:

• It happens that the facade is successfully hung on the PMM door. But at the same time, the car door does not open – the bottom of the front panel touches the cabinet frame.
• Much more often, the facade cannot be hung at all – the fasteners, it and the doors, turn out to be incompatible.

In dishwashers from IKEA, unlike other machines, the doors are retractable, which allows them to easily fit into the niches prepared for them.

If the device is not suitable for embedding, you can order a front panel alteration from furniture makers or even order a new one – in accordance with the size of the door. But you can solve the problem yourself. Let’s find out how to do it.

How to fit the facade?

You can use the good old way – fitting. The idea is realized with the help of a jigsaw. Procedure:

• Saw off a part of the front panel that prevents the door from opening. You have to saw off about 8 cm. When doing work, you need to act carefully so that chips do not occur. The saw cut must be treated with sandpaper.
• If necessary, rearrange the fasteners so that the door fits perfectly and opens and closes without the slightest interference.

Advantages of the method:

1. This solution helps to maintain a harmonious look of the headset.
2. The door is free to open and close.
3. It does not require much effort and financial costs.

Disadvantages of sawing fit:

1. The disadvantage of this method is the “exposing” of the bottom of the niche and the legs of the PMM. After sawing off, a gap appears, which does not look particularly beautiful in the furniture composition.
2. If there is some kind of ornament on the facade, the saw cut method is not suitable. When sawing off, the pattern will be disturbed and the harmony will be broken.

The first disadvantage can be eliminated. To do this, you need to take the sawn off part of the facade and hang it using IKEA hinges. She will cover the bottom of the niche.

How to raise the facade?

If there is some kind of image on the front panel, you cannot saw it. But it will not be possible to hang it. There is one way to get out of the situation, but to implement it, you need to strictly follow the instructions.

Procedure:

1. Unscrew the fasteners on the PMM door. Fasteners are not thrown away – they will still be needed.
2. Buy ball guides for furniture – telescopic type.
3. One part of the guide is installed on the PMM door, the second part – on the reverse side of the facade. Installation is carried out so that both parts of the guide match perfectly.
4. Having connected the parts of the guide, hang the facade on the door of the dishwasher.

When the PMM door is opened, the front panel will move up – thanks to the guides, clearing the way. Now nothing will prevent the door from opening.

This solution has one drawback – there should be a sufficiently large space in front of the PMM, since when the door is opened, the panel moves forward by 0,3–0,5 m.

The easiest way is to put PMM, released under the same brand, in the Ikea kitchen. But with a little work, you can install a dishwasher of any other company in it.
