2 causes of failure of the dishwasher water supply valve

Each piece of equipment performs its function, but due to various reasons, it can fail. The dishwasher water inlet valve is also prone to electronic and mechanical failure. Want to try your hand at renovation? Then read the recommendations for replacing the part.

This is what the inlet looks like

Features of the water valve

Often, in the event of a malfunction, the PMM diagnostic system is turned on. Depending on the models of Bosch, Electrolux, Siemens and other brands, an error code is displayed on the display, which reports problems with the flow of water into the hopper.

The fact is that the machine works like this: after turning on and selecting a program, the control module gives a signal to the valve, after which the filling element opens the damper and lets water in. When the level sensor reports that there is enough liquid in the tank, a signal is sent to the electronic coils again and the damper closes. This is how an electromagnetic element works.

In addition to the error code, the following symptoms can report a problem:

  • Water does not get into the tank. The part does not respond to controller commands, therefore it does not open the damper.
  • Continuous flow of water into the bunker. The membrane is in the open position, so nothing obstructs the flow.

Prefabricated structure with mesh filter

Rarely, but still, the part is subject to blockage from the water supply side. In this case, it is enough to clean it to restore work. Otherwise, you will have to replace.

Where is the inlet valve located and how do I replace it?

Repair does not require special knowledge, the main thing is to adhere to safety rules. The easiest way to find out the location of the part is by following the connection point of the inlet hose to the dishwasher body. So, in some models it can be located below, immediately behind the hose. In others, it is located in the Aquastop protection box (relevant for the Hansa PMM).

Buy a new spare part only of original production for a specific brand. Better yet, remove the old part and go to the store with it.

Let’s describe how to get to the bay valve:

  • Disconnect the machine from the network and communications.
  • If the hose leads to the bottom of the cabinet, turn the dishwasher on its side.
  • Remove the bottom or plinth panel.

Dismantling the part at the bottom of the housing

  • Disconnect the tank with the hose from the PMM.
  • The valve is in the plastic box.

But before replacing the hose with the valve, it is necessary to diagnose the element, because at a glance it is impossible to determine the health of the assembly. To do this, you will need a multimeter and knowledge of normal readings. Here is how to check the detail:

  • Set the multimeter to ohmmeter mode.
  • Disconnect wiring from terminals.
  • Press the probes of the multimeter to the contacts.
  • Follow the indications on the screen. A serviceable valve will show a resistance of 500 to 1500 ohms.
  • In the event of a malfunction, the display will not change.

The video will help you understand the intricacies of diagnosis:

The coils are ringing. If they are working, then diagnose the mechanical part. This is easy to do by directing a pressure of water onto the node membrane. The work gate will open. Replacement is done in reverse order. After disconnecting the contacts, unscrew the mounting bolts to the body and install a new spare part.

If the inlet element is installed on the hose, then you will have to buy a new Aquastop system, and this will cost more than a simple valve change. Can repairs be made cheaper?

How to reduce the cost of repairs?

Only those users who have an old washing machine can resort to such a trick. The fact is that the valves from the dishwasher and washing machine are almost identical and operate on the same principle. In extreme cases, you can purchase an inexpensive spare part for PMM Beko, Ariston, Bosch without the Aquastop kit.

To replace, do this:

  • Remove the element from its seat.
  • A part with two leads is usually installed in the washer, so close one of them with a plug.
  • Connect a hose to another outlet and clamp it with a clamp.
  • To correctly connect the terminals to the contacts, ring the wires with a multimeter.

Run the machine to check the operation of the intake system. As you can see, even a novice dishwasher user can cope with the replacement.

To prevent premature failure of the part, follow the operating rules that are indicated in the instructions. Among these:

  • Installation of a voltage stabilizer. The device will protect the electronic components of the PMM from burnout as a result of surges in the network.
  • Using a water filter. Before entering the dishwasher, you can put an additional filter that will soften and purify the water from debris.

Not everything rests on the cost of equipment and brand advertising. Even the most ordinary car is able to serve faithfully beyond the agreed period. If you make efforts to care for PMM.
