While a relatively short season given its northerly location, spring can be quite pleasant in New York. Lasting from March through April and into May, spring temperatures will reach their peak in the 70s Fahrenheit before transitioning to summer weather. While March and April will still be cool with an increased chance of rainfall, May’s a good time to visit New York State, as you can expect to see the warmer temperature bringing with it the arrival of tree foliage and flowers.

Lasting from September through October and into November, autumn in New York State is generally dry, with any longer periods of rain typically holding off until the last weeks of the season. Winter here lasts from December through January into February, and while much of the southern part of the state will be cold and often cloudy during the winter months with moderate precipitation, upper New York State is colder and much snowier, particularly where it matters: on the ski slopes. In fact, in the popular winter destination of the Adirondack Mountains, you can expect to see as much as 90 inches of snow during the winter months.
