The most expensive wines traditionally include drinks from France, in particular from Burgundy and Bordeaux, sometimes there are products from the USA made in the Napa Valley.
The list of exclusive wines includes one copy of Massandra production. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s study the top valuable drinks sold not only through Christie’s and Sotheby’s auctions, but also in other ways.
20 most expensive champagnes
A bottle of Massandra sherry from 1775 – $43,500
At the Sotheby’s auction, a copy of the legendary product was sold for 43,5 thousand dollars.
The labels bear the seal of the Russian Empire.
Chateau d’Yquem – $90,000
Antique exhibit from Bordeaux, made in 1787, was purchased at auction for 90 thousand dollars.
The current owner does not intend to try the exclusive wine, which is understandable: it is unlikely that the drink is still suitable for drinking.
Chateau Latour 1865 – $116,000
A rare specimen: there are only a few bottles of this product left in the world.
Chateau d’Yquem 1811 – $117,000
Refers to the products of the Bordeaux region. Usually wines from the area don’t last that long, but this drink is a wonderful exception.
The precious bottle is owned by an Italian collector who plans to open it on the occasion of the anniversary of his professional activity.
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti – $124,000
Produced in Burgundy, at first glance, does not stand out among other elite wines in France.
The uniqueness of the drink is that it belongs to a limited series: due to poor harvests and the invasion of phylloxera, only 1945 bottles were produced in 600.
However, experts are by no means delighted with the taste of wine and consider the price too high.
Chateau Lafite 1787 – $168,000
One of the most curious instances of the rating, which no one will dare to try: the wine has long gone beyond the boundaries of the “shelf life”.
The bottle itself is of value, on which there is an autograph of Thomas Jefferson.
According to the legend belonging to the exclusive wine, it was the President of the United States who was its first owner.
Ampoule from Penfolds – 8,000$
Chateau Mouthon Rothschild – 219,000$
Another copy of French products sold for a fabulous sum: wine for 219 thousand dollars was purchased by an anonymous buyer at an auction in London in 1945.
A batch of these drinks is remarkable not only for its taste, but also for its unique design: the labels were designed by famous artists Dali and Picasso.
Chateau Margaux 1787 – $0,000
This bottle has an interesting history. The owner insured it for $250k and one day he decided to drink it.
As expected, he invited his friends to the Four Seasons Hotel and asked the waitress to open a bottle of expensive wine, but she accidentally broke it.
As a result, the insurance company paid the entire amount to the owner.
1869 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild – $233,000
This wine was very popular at the royal court of the Russian Empire.
The record amount for a bottle of French drink was paid by an unknown Chinese magnate in 1911 – it was sold for 233 thousand dollars.
Shipwrecked Heidsieck 1907 года – 275,000$
The peculiarity of wine is in the unique history that accompanies it.
According to legend, this drink was intended for the Russian Emperor Nicholas II, but the ship carrying the precious products sank and did not reach its destination.
From the bottom of the Gulf of Finland, the bottles were recovered only in 1998 – hence the high cost.
They say that the drink only benefited from such storage in taste.
Chateau Cheval Blanc 1947 года – $305,000
Connoisseurs say that the wine justifies its price, and it is stored for a long time, which means that, unlike some other specimens from the top, it can still be tasted.
Jeroboam of Chateau Mouton-Rothschild 1945 – 310,700$
This is the wine of the richest family on earth, and therefore its price is not a surprise.
Coming from the vineyards of Nathaniel Rothschild, who bought the estate in 1853, today these wines are among the most expensive in the world.
The “V” in the 1945 label indicates the Allied victory in World War II and is considered one of the finest vintages of the last century.
Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992 – 500,000$
The most expensive bottle of wine that has been sold to date has not been made in Italy or France, but in America – Oakville, California to be precise.
Due to the rarity and small amount of wine produced here, the wine has achieved cult status.
Described as “spectacular”, a bottle of Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon 1992 managed to fetch an incredible $500 for a charity auction in 000.
