12 films about introverts

Romantic comedy, cartoon about superheroes, vampire saga and intellectual drama – films of different genres in this selection are united by the presence of introverted characters. On each of them, you can dwell a little more and choose a movie for a quiet evening alone or to watch with loved ones.

1. “Exchange Vacation” – Iris

Living on opposite ends of the world, Iris and Amanda find themselves in a similar situation, faced with the betrayal of their beloved men. Desperate to renew their lives, they meet online and agree to trade houses for their vacation. Amanda flies to snowy England, and Iris flies to sunny Los Angeles.

Neither expected that the exchange vacation would bring each new love … Iris exhibits the classic traits of an introvert. You can call her a quiet person. Working in a large and crowded company, she seeks solitude in her own office. As a typical introvert, she is happy to meet face-to-face with those who are of interest to her, having long conversations and plunging into thought.

However, when circumstances force her to communicate with a group of people, she feels confused. A solid romantic comedy is suitable for a bachelorette party, and for a romantic date, and for Christmas gatherings.

2. “How to Train Your Dragon” – Hiccup

A series of animated films tells about the young Viking Hiccup, who decides to tame the dragon, ignoring everything he was told about their danger and deceit. The taming that the hero began is more and more like a friendship, and on the way to it, Hiccup will have many adventures and funny situations.

He also has the difficult task of convincing his fellow tribesmen that dragons are not enemies at all and can be made friends with. Hiccup is an outsider in his clan. He is small, full of “ridiculous” ideas that everyone does not understand, and spends time thinking about how to change the life of the clan for the better.

His introverted nature comes out clearly in the training scene when he and his peers are trained to kill “vermin”. Realizing that he is different from the typical Vikings, as his father would like to see him, Hiccup decides for himself the difficult task of remaining an outsider or abandoning his personal beliefs, pretending to be “normal”.

The film is perfect for those who love cartoons, dragons, Vikings and exciting fantasy stories.

3. “The Hobbit” – Bilbo

The hobbit Bilbo, accompanied by dwarves and with the support of the wizard Gandalf, makes a dangerous journey in order to return the kingdom of Erebor, taking it from the dragon Smaug. Bilbo is the ultimate introvert. An inhabitant of a hobbit hole, he prefers a quiet life filled with daily routine with books and tea.

A dangerous quest in dubious company does not appeal to him at all, especially if it means the need to part with all his usual comforts. His words can be considered the life credo of an introvert: “I wish I were now at home, in my cute mink, by the fireplace, when the kettle is about to start whistling!”

The trilogy will be highly appreciated by fans of Tolkien’s books, most of whom have probably already reviewed it more than once. Turning on the film, it is worth making sure that there is plenty of time ahead in order to continue without stopping and watch all the parts to the end.

4. Beauty and the Beast (2017 version) – Belle

Few have heard of this story. Beauty Belle becomes a prisoner of a monster, in which, as it turns out, a lot of humanity is literally hidden. The bewitched young man must have time to correct himself, fall in love and become loved before the period appointed by the sorceress expires. And Belle is his last hope of becoming human again.

Despite the incredible inner strength, thanks to which Belle passes all the tests with honor, she can also be considered a classic introvert. Her desire for solitude is as strong as her readiness for adventure. Perhaps the most striking example of her introversion is her dialogue with a bookseller, in which she recounts a captivating story she recently read.

On the way home, Belle sings with her nose in a new book – the girl clearly prefers reading to communicating with someone else. Those who remember the original feature-length cartoon, a classic from Walt Disney, will surely enjoy the new production.

5 The Avengers – Bruce Banner

When the Earth is on the verge of enslavement, the head of the organization “SHIELD. I.T.” Nick Fury collects superheroes. Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye come together to save the Earth. Because of the second essence of Bruce Banner – the Incredible Hulk – it is difficult to unambiguously call the hero an introvert.

However, the image of a closed person who prefers to be in the shadows is shown in all series with his participation. He is humble, intelligent and thinks analytically. At the beginning of the film, Black Widow finds him in one of the third world countries, where Banner is hiding from civilization, reading and helping sick poverty.

In response to her persuasion, he asks to be left alone and alone. This film has already become a cult classic for fans of the Marvel universe, and if someone really likes superheroes – well, why not watch it again?

6 Dead Poets Society – Todd

A new teacher of English literature at a conservative American college is trying to awaken a love of poetry in students. Contrary to the rules, his students establish a closed club, the Society of Dead Poets, in which they read and compose poetry. One of the students, Todd, is very quiet, very studious, and for a long time remains in the shadow of the fame of his older brother, who is popular at school.

Todd enjoys reading and learning and enjoys being a member of the Dead Poets Society. Not particularly taking part in general pranks, he gladly joins an active group of students. Leaving his comfort zone and speaking in front of a class gives rise to great anxiety in him – he would prefer to be “fallen off” at this moment. His seemingly imperceptible strength is manifested through the help of friends, even when everyone is overwhelmed by the unfolding tragedy.

7. “City of Heroes” – Wasabi

After the dramatic events of Hiro Hamada, a genius at creating robots, over time, he finds out what kind of mysterious stranger is stealing his secrets and is involved in the death of a family member. Like many introverts, Wasabi is quiet, follows the rules and surrounds himself with only his closest friends.

His inner strength and openness to new things are revealed throughout the film and turn out to be highly sought-after qualities. One of the unique aspects of his personality is his passion for cleanliness and order, for which he is ridiculed, which confuses the hero. The film will greatly appeal to those who are attracted to animated superheroes and family stories.

8. “The Incredibles” – Violet

Bob and Helen Par are superheroes, but due to circumstances they hide their abilities and live an ordinary life, raising three children who are also endowed with superpowers. Behind the back of the family, Bob gets involved in a story that changes everything …

Violet is modest and quiet, responsible and used to following the rules. Even her superpower may indicate an introverted character – the girl is able to become invisible, which she uses to see her love. She even greets him – but who will notice the invisible?

The clothes also help her disguise herself in front of him and her peers, until at the end of the film Helen takes her aside, telling her to take the courage to be herself.

As a result, Violet accepts not only her superpowers, but the entire introverted personality as a whole. Once again, the film is recommended for those who love animated superheroes and the combination of a great story with the theme of the importance of the family.

9. “Jumanji. Call of the Jungle – Martha and Spencer

Four teenagers find themselves drawn into a game that prepares hard trials for its captives. They have no choice: either pass them and return home, or remain trapped forever. Martha and Spencer are two typical introverts. Both are abstruse, prefer logic to faith, are slightly clumsy and ready to do a lot for a good cause.

In both, there is an inner “quiet power” that is revealed in a positive way in the plot. One of the signs of Spencer’s isolation is his behavior at school, where he is quiet, speaks only to a friend and always remains in the background of the crowd of classmates. Once in the game, the guy proves to be an excellent wrestler and becomes a leader for a team that needs him.

A sign of Martha’s introversion is her habitual posture. With her chin down and her gaze, hunched over and with her arms folded across her chest, she seems to be giving a message: “don’t try to talk to me!”. In Jumanji, Martha must go through a difficult journey, overcoming her fear of being rejected for her cleverness and befriending a seemingly completely unsuitable person. The film will definitely appeal to fans of adventure and action.

10 The Hunger Games – Katniss

Rescuing her sister, Katniss instead becomes a participant in the Hunger Games, a spectacle organized by the state of Panem. In order to survive and return to her family, the girl will have to muster all her courage and get the right, but difficult allies. No wonder Katniss is on this list. She is always ready to help those in need.

She would rather not lead a rebellion, and live somewhere far away from the Hunger Games. In general, this is a calm personality, although sometimes it shows impudence, it is difficult to express emotions – and this is also considered a trait of introverts who live a lot inside. She does not like to be in the spotlight, and even more so to speak in public and appear on TV screens.

Fans of dark and exciting plots will definitely like the film, and fans of the world created by the Hunger Games books have probably already seen this fantastic adaptation more than once, which keeps the viewer in suspense until the last second.

11 Justice League – Batman

Batman and Wonder Woman are assembling a team of superheroes – and they have to do it quickly if they want to save the world from imminent chaos and destruction. Perhaps the reason for this was the loss, but Batman is an introvert to the core. He, of course, owns the company and is generally a superhero, but in general, Bruce prefers to live quietly.

As the leader of a superhero team, he is no stranger to some inner turmoil. And when you need to make a plan to defeat evil, he prefers to concentrate and think carefully in complete solitude. Perhaps his most introverted trait is his habit of holding emotions inside for a long time and the unexpected outbursts that accompany it, which members of the Batman team have to endure.

Guilt, pain and anger are often experienced deep inside by introverts, but sometimes they spill out onto close and unsuspecting friends. Fans of this universe have probably already re-read all the comics and watched every film adaptation, but if someone has not seen it yet, you should prepare for a deep dive … The film is made a masterpiece by a well-developed plot and a set of actors.

12. “Twilight” – Bella

Bella moves to the small town of Forks, where her father lives, comes to school and falls in love with a classmate who, as it turns out, is a vampire. To add to this shock, the heroine finds herself embroiled in a completely confusing and sometimes dangerous story involving a werewolf and warring vampire clans.

Introvert Bella loves to spend time in solitude. Edward has to talk her into going to prom. For her taste, it is too noisy and crowded, so they even prefer to dance in a quiet garden gazebo, which looks very romantic in the frame. Lovers of love stories – especially paranormal love stories – and fans of vampires and werewolves have appreciated the saga.
