11 Ways to Spend the New Year Alone

The very prospect of staying on the evening of December 31 without the company of many is terrifying. But if such a development of events threatens you this year, do not panic: you can enjoy the meeting of the New Year even in solitude.

1. Walk around the city center

The fact that you celebrate the New Year alone does not mean at all that you cannot dress up and go out somewhere. If the bars and restaurants are closed, you can walk around the festively decorated city. And if theaters are open, you can even spend the evening of December 31 at a performance.

2. Have a movie night

You can create a program based on your preferences and interests: it can be new episodes of the series that you missed due to work, or a Christmas movie marathon, or all seasons of your favorite show, or, say, Lord of the Rings night, ” Harry Potter, even Die Hard. Prepare yourself a delicious dinner, stock up on snacks – and go!

3. Organize a rearrangement at home

Have you been thinking about changing something in the apartment for a long time, but didn’t have enough time for it? Why not do the reshuffle right on December 31st? New year, new design!

Arrange a general cleaning and get rid of unnecessary things, swap furniture, place framed photos around the house, decorate a Christmas tree. Do not try to cover everything at once – try to concentrate on one room or area in the apartment. The main thing is that the process of rearrangement should be a pleasure for you.

4. Write letters to family and friends

Start a new (and actually well forgotten old) tradition: write handwritten letters to loved ones. You can tell them about how your year went, share important events and achievements and, of course, thank them for being there for you.

If you don’t feel like writing by hand, you can prepare a warm message for everyone, pick up a picture (as an option, make a collage of joint photos) and send it all to the messenger.

5. Set goals for the coming year

If you’ve already tried making New Year’s resolutions to yourself, but nothing good has come of it, the problem may be that you haven’t thought through how you’re going to get there. It’s time to do it!

It is important to:

  • Be realistic and break down a big goal into small steps that you can do.

  • Think about who or what will support you along the way and motivate you not to give up.

6. Go where you have long wanted to go

Have you long wanted to go to the nearest city or to another country where the situation is now relatively safe and where you can get to without any problems? Don’t wait for the right company to show up, go there right now!

7. Play video games

If you love this type of leisure, but have denied yourself it for a long time, you can make an exception on New Year’s Eve. A particularly good option is to play online, having the opportunity to “meet” players from different countries and spend the night in their company.

8. Start reading a good book

Let’s be honest: many of us would like to read more and more often, but there is always not enough time for this. Well, the whole evening of December 31 and the whole night is at your disposal! Take out a warm blanket, turn on the garland, pour yourself some tea or wine, sit back and get ready to dive into an exciting new world. And, who knows, maybe after that reading will again become an integral part of your life.

9. Learn something new

Perhaps, in the usual turmoil of affairs, you almost never have the opportunity to express yourself creatively, to do something with your own hands. Dedicate New Year’s Eve to watching a master class on a topic that interests you and discover a new hobby. Charcoal drawing, knitting, furniture restoration – whatever you like.

10. Schedule a meeting with friends on January 1

Even if you spend the night from December 31 to January 1 alone, it will help brighten up the anticipation of the next day, when you gather friends and loved ones at home. Devote time to cleaning, cooking, decorating the space, compiling playlists, thinking through entertainment. Tired of preparation…

11. Go to bed early

At the end of this tough, stressful year, you deserve a good rest. Take a warm bath, drink a glass of wine or a glass of milk, turn on some relaxing music and/or a scented lamp. Be alone with yourself and let yourself have a good sleep to wake up on the first morning of the new year full of strength, energy and plans.
