Or, if you prefer a more sedate pace, settle into a lounger by the pool and get started on that latest bestseller.

9. Bluegreen’s Bayside Resort and Spa
Accommodation: Bluegreen’s Bayside Resort and Spa
Once one of the most popular luxury resort offerings on Florida’s Panhandle, the Sheraton Panama City Beach Golf & Spa Resort has recently been purchased and renamed Bluegreen’s Bayside Resort and Spa.
The resort is undergoing massive renovations and will become a timeshare facility as part of the wider Bluegreen’s network. Accommodation for non-time-share guests is, and will continue to be, available.
A highlight of a stay here is the resort’s beautiful waterfront. Here, guests can unwind and sunbathe on the resort’s lovely private beach, take in some alfresco dining in Flip Flops restaurant, or venture out on a Jet Ski or pontoon boat rental. People-powered kayaks and paddleboards are also available.
Other on-site fun includes two heated outdoor swimming pools, 36 holes of golf (lessons and equipment rental available), a full-service spa and fitness center, plus five tennis courts and a pro shop.
After all the activity (or not!), in the evening, stroll down to The Tides restaurant and enjoy a lovely dinner overlooking St. Andrews Bay.
Note the resort is off on its own and not on the main Panama City Beach on the Gulf of Mexico. This has upsides and downsides. If all you want to do is enjoy the pools, hit the beach, and go golfing, you’ve found the spot. If you want to go mini golfing (putt-putt), hit Ripley’s Believe it or Not, or go for long walks on the beach at sunrise or sunset, count on a 15-minute drive to get there.
Guests can choose from a variety of well-appointed rooms and suites, too. Standard offerings come with queen or king beds, walk-in showers, mini-fridges, and lounge areas. Upgrade to one of the deluxe main-floor rooms and you’ll be spoiled with patios and direct access to the pool area.
Better still, if even more space is needed, consider upgrading to one of the charming villas located adjacent to the golf course. These spacious stand-alone units offer greater privacy, along with full kitchens and separate living rooms.
For those requiring them, accessible rooms with grab bars and roll-in showers are also available. A number of rooms are also available for those traveling with pets.

If you prefer a smaller hotel, consider The Driftwood Lodge, located right next door to the above described Osprey on the Gulf (also owned by the same family). Here, you’ll find large suites on two levels, complete with balconies. This is a family place, where you’ll typically find group cookouts going on at the outdoor kitchen while kids frolic in the pool and adults try their luck at shuffleboard.
At this older but very well-maintained property, your accommodation choices include standard rooms with sinks and a microwave right through to one-bedroom suites with full kitchens, and even the Cabana Suite with two rooms joined via a connecting door. Rooms on the first floor look out onto the pool, while those on the second floor have ocean views.
The hotel has an active social calendar, with fun things to do for all ages around St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, and other notable dates.

Rooms are a mix of traditional hotel rooms and rooms with kitchens; many have expansive patios out front with beautiful Gulf of Mexico views. The resort has a six-story tower and a lower two-story tower.
The beach is only a few steps away across a boardwalk. Bring your own beach gear or rent from one of the vendors on the beach. Beach walkers will be in their element; the sand stretches for miles and miles in either direction.
