It’s very easy to come up with reasons not to run)) Therefore, I decided to collect some convincing arguments in favor running. For example, I cannot bring myself to run when the weather is bad, and I sincerely admire those who continue to train in the Russian fall / winter / early spring. I hope that very soon the situation will change for the better, and then – urgently run outside!
The beauty of running is that just about anyone can do the sport, and running regularly can completely change your life! Most importantly, if you are unfamiliar with running technique (and this is the case with most runners I meet on the tracks), figure out how to do it so as not to injure your knees and back.
Here are some compelling reasons to start running.
- To live longer… There is strong evidence that moderate jogging prolongs life, even if you only spend a few minutes on it every day.
- To burn calories… Your individual calorie burn rate will vary based on your gender, weight, activity level, and how far and how fast you run. But rest assured: running you burn 50% more calories than walking the same distance.
- To smile. When we run, our brains release a range of wellness chemicals that act like drugs. This is called runner euphoria.
- To better remember… Learning a new language isn’t the only way to keep your brain working. Research shows that physical activity plays an even more important role in preventing cognitive impairment.
- To sleep better… People who exercise regularly have far fewer sleep problems than those who lead a sedentary lifestyle. But the most promising discovery of recent times is that even light loads bring great results: just 10 minutes of physical activity a day helps us sleep better.
- To feel more energetic… At first glance, it may seem that jogging after a working day will drain the last of your strength from you. But in fact, physical activity is energizing.
- To help your heart… The American Heart Association recommends 40 minutes of moderate to vigorous aerobic exercise – jogging – three or four times a week to naturally lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
- To relax… Yes, playing sports is technically stressful for the body. However, the same chemicals that are produced during running are responsible for wellness and mood and help relieve stress.
- To reduce your risk of cancer. According to the US National Cancer Institute, there is strong evidence that physically active people have a lower risk of developing colon and breast cancer. New research suggests that exercise can help protect the endometrium, lungs and prostate gland.
- To spend more time outside… Fresh air will help strengthen your nervous system and boost your energy levels.
- To get rid of colds… If regular jogging becomes your new sporting habit, the flu and cold season will go away without illness. Moderate exercise strengthens the immune system’s ability to ward off viruses.
