11 makeup secrets for women after 40 to look younger
Beauty life hacks that can be learned in quarantine.
Over the years, the structure of the skin and the oval of the face begin to change. This means that not only wrinkles that have appeared, but also ineptly applied decorative cosmetics can give out age. Therefore, you need to know which techniques refresh and rejuvenate, and which, on the contrary, can emphasize imperfections.
1. Remember about hydration
After 40 years, the level of hormones in the female body begins to fall. We will not go into medical terminology, let’s just say in general terms that this is not reflected in the skin in the best way: dryness appears, the oval of the face changes, skin color becomes heterogeneous, puffiness may appear. This suggests that facial care should be regular and correct with all stages – from cleansing to sun protection and nutrition. Read more about this here. And you need to remember about hydration. Fluids, serums, creams, tonics and thermal water should always be at hand. Because no matter how hard you try with makeup, it will not look advantageous on dry skin. Before applying cosmetics, thoroughly moisturize the face.
2. The foundation is lighter than usual
One tone lighter – five years younger, make-up artists say. The foundation should be pinkish or light beige, slightly lighter than the skin. When buying a concealer, opt for a water-based, liquid, lightweight cream with vitamins A and E and sunscreen. Nowadays, tonal products with the so-called shimmering effect are produced – this is just an excellent option for mature skin: it gives lightness, freshness, and radiance. You need to apply the cream pointwise, shading across the wrinkles, and not along. With a lighter cream, highlight the area of the forehead, cheekbones and around the lips. The general rule is that the foundation should not lie on the face with a thick mask, but appear invisible.
3. Say no to mother of pearl
What’s good for foundation is not good for eyeshadow. With age, you no longer need to chase fashion trends in makeup and paint like a student girl. We rely on naturalness, therefore, when choosing an eyeshadow, stop at nude colors of a matte texture (coffee, light beige, gray, olive). Also, forget about saturated colors – purple, hot pink, blue, emerald.
4. Black pencil is prohibited
Softness of lines is the motto of a make-up for older women. Arrows are best done with a soft pencil or shadows, carefully shading the line. Black is too radical and bright, you can replace it with more muted shades – dark gray, dark brown and dark green. And it is better to abandon clear eyeliner lines altogether.
5. War paint is not for us
We will leave languid long arrows a la cat’s eye for green youth. On mature skin, which is no longer so elastic and surrounded by a fine mesh of wrinkles, arrows are inappropriate. This area undergoes age-related changes faster than others, therefore, in rejuvenating, anti-aging makeup, you should not attract attention with catchy accents, but emphasize the natural beauty and slightly correct the changes that have appeared. For example, over the years, the corners of the eyes go down, and in order to return the openness to the gaze, draw a soft arrow and raise it up.
6. Less is better
In their youth, girls experiment a lot: someone draws a contour along the lower eyelid (almost along the mucous membrane), someone completely circles the eye, someone makes screaming long arrows or straight lines. With age, you should get rid of all geometry in your makeup. The lower eyelid cannot be accentuated at all with a pencil or ink. Remember that the eyelids are no longer perfect, the eye shape becomes smaller and not so open, so there is no need to add too much.
7. Don’t forget about blush
The blush, which the skin of adult ladies lacks, will also refresh the face. Makeup artists advise taking creamy products, light shades – for example, light pink, peach or beige. Apply them lightly to the raised areas of the cheekbones.
8. And about the eyebrows
How unfair nature is: eyebrows stop growing at a certain age. While the fashion for the shape is changing. And those who once plucked them into a narrow thread now urgently correct the mistake by drawing a shape with a pencil and doing microblading. The main thing here is to find a good specialist and not overdo it with color. Because there are often ladies who have blue or dark black arches on their faces. Do you care for your eyebrows yourself? So use a lighter shade of pencil, eyebrow shadow, and a brush to brush and blend the color.
9. Shape and outline
Over the years, a pencil must appear in the cosmetic bag. With its help we “rejuvenate” the lips. The fact is that they lose color, volume and elasticity, and you can easily correct this with a pencil. Important: choose a muted color (not bright, not dark), and a soft texture. You can apply the contour not with a solid line, but with a dotted line, outlining the boundaries, and then align and paint over with glitter or lipstick (also non-flashy shades). Note the volumizing gloss (with the addition of menthol, which increases the blood flow to the lips and makes the lips look slightly larger). Dense matte lipsticks, on the other hand, accentuate wrinkles and dry out the lips even more.
10. Concealer – in business
Sadly, over the years, dark spots, pigmentation and other defects form on the skin. Equip yourself with concealer and mask imperfections. So that the problem area does not stand out even more with wrinkles clogged with foundation, it is better to choose a light product, but with a dense structure. We select the color based on the problem: a green concealer hides redness, purple will help hide yellow imperfections, and orange will make bruises under the eyes invisible.
Expert Opinion
– To hide the signs of skin aging, the most important thing in makeup is by skin type the right primer: For dry skin I recommend Primer Oil, for combination Primerizer, and for normal to dull skin I recommend our new Vitamin Glow Primer.
The key to the perfect tone also lies in the correct order of application of funds and accurate selection of the foundation… For example, you can use the Studio Skin 24 Hour Wear Hydrating Foundation, a versatile, long-lasting and hydrating tone. I recommend applying it first in a thin layer in the form of a beauty mix, for example, with Primer Oil, and then locally work out the areas where it is necessary to thicken the tone, hiding redness or dark areas.
To the zone around eyes Hydrating Under Eye Primer is the best choice – it evens out the thin and sensitive skin around the eyes, allows the concealer to be distributed thinly and precisely in those areas where it is needed, and not to emphasize facial or age formations.
I also advise you not to forget about using blush: For example, Always On Cream to Matte and Primer Oil can create a weightless veil of color, while the moist texture of these blushes will fill the skin with freshness and radiance.
If we talk about shadowsthen you should avoid powdery textures that are too shiny or matte. In this case, satin and semi-matte pigments will look best on the eyelids – they visually align the eyelid, and thanks to the 24 Hour Photo Finish eyelid primer, the skin will flawlessly hold the pigment applied over it.
