Every self-respecting actor strives for roles that would leave their mark on the history of cinema and in the hearts of the audience, but sometimes it turns out exactly the opposite.
It happens that famous and talented actors play roles for which they themselves are later ashamed, which they honestly admit. This happens for various reasons: sometimes they agree because of the money, and sometimes the final product turns out to be far from what it seemed at the time of signing the contract, but there was no turning back.
Today we have collected 10 worst roles of different actors that they themselves prefer not to remember.
10 Super Mario Bros – Bob Hoskins | 1993
Accepting a role in a video game adaptation is a risky undertaking and many actors and directors have been burned on this. This fate did not bypass Bob Hoskins, who played Mario in the film based on the cult video game series.
Almost 50 million dollars were spent on the production of the Italian-American tape, which is a lot by today’s standards, and for 1993 it was a decent amount, but a resounding failure awaited at the box office – less than 21 million total fees.
Later among the “geeks” the film gained a cult status, but Hoskins was ashamed of this role until his death in 2014, regretting that he had signed a filming contract.
9. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer – Jessica Alba | 2007
This superhero blockbuster did pretty well at the box office, but on the whole it did not cause enthusiasm, which is why the threequel, for which the actors had signed a contract in advance, was canceled.
Who exactly was not upset about this was Jessica Alba, who later repeatedly stated that she was disappointed with her participation in the filming. It sounds a little strange considering what a third-rate movie she has starred in since: a bunch of low-profile comedies like Meet the Fockers 2, Spy Kids 4D, Sex Guru, etc. I wonder if she is proud of these roles?
8. The Devil’s Own – Brad Pitt | 1997
In this case, Pitt’s dissatisfaction with his role seems even stranger: the last film directed by Alan Pakula, before his death, was pretty good.
This is a story about the civil war in Northern Ireland, in which the actor tried on the image of an IRA fighter who went to London to buy missiles. Harrison Ford became a partner on the set, and together they pulled out a completely ordinary film. Maybe Pitt did not like the fact that his character was not entirely positive?
7. “Kind of Pregnant” – Katherine Heigl | 2007
Comedy Judd Apatow, starring Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl, was a 2007 breakthrough: it earned $145 million in the US alone (on a budget of $30 million), received excellent reviews on IMDb (8.1), and also entered the top five of the best for the first half of the year on Rotten Tomatoes, with a rating of 91%, which is a real success for an average comedy at first glance.
Nevertheless, Heigl does not include this role in his asset, trying to disown it in every possible way and forget it, like a bad dream.
6. “Scar Vigolova” — Ben Affleck 2003
And here the reason for Affleck’s shame is quite understandable: for his role as a blind superhero, he received the Golden Raspberry, and film critics and the press mocked him for a long time. Although, it is not so much the actor who is to blame for the disgusting quality of the film, but the screenwriter and director Mark Steven Johnson, since the plot and staging in Daredevil are much worse than Ben Affleck’s acting.
The picture dealt a blow not only to his reputation, but also put an end to the comic character himself for a long time, and only in 2015 did Netflix manage to revive his image in their series.
Because of this story, Affleck did not want to accept the role of Batman, for fear of getting involved in superheroics, but in the end he agreed, which he regretted again: DC blockbusters with his participation turned out to be so-so.
5. “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” – Megan Fox | 2009
Dissatisfaction with her role as Megan Fox can be compared with the story of Jessica Alba: after this unsuccessful, in her opinion, work, she starred in much worse ones.
The Michael Bay ride was at least commercially successful, grossing nearly $1 billion worldwide.
Around this film, the actress’s career has steadily rolled down: “Jennifer’s Body”, “Children are not a hindrance to sex”, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” – not a single decent role. Given that she is only 32 years old, Meghan still has time to return to the clip, so everything depends on her.
4. Star Wars – Alec Guinness | 1977
It’s hard to believe, but even participation in the cult Star Wars universe can not be proud, but vice versa, and an example of this is the performer of the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Alec Guinness.
His role in the original trilogy was remembered by fans only on the positive side: the elderly Jedi inspired respect, although his death at the hands of Darth Vader still raises questions. However, according to rumors, the actor himself asked that his character be “leaked”, as he did not want to act again.
3. “Catwoman” – Halle Berry | 2004
One of the worst comic book adaptations that Hollywood has ever produced. Despite the sexuality and charisma of Halle Berry, the disregard for the original source and the leaky script ruined a good idea, putting an end to the planned sequel.
After filming in X-Men, the appearance of the actress in a new image turned out to be a failure, which upset her, but did not cause serious damage to her career.
2. “The Apparition” – Mark Wahlberg | 2008
The funny thing about this story is that the director of the film, M. Night Shyamalan, initially saw only Mark Wahlberg in the lead role, without even seriously considering other applicants.
The actor succumbed to persuasion, which he later regretted: according to him, the character of Elliot Moore turned out to be one of the worst in his career and now he would never put his signature on the contract and would not even go to the casting.
1. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen – Sean Connery | 2003
During his long career, Sir Sean Connery starred in dozens of films, from Bond to The Red Tent, created with the participation of the USSR, but he considers The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and the image of Alan Quatermain to be his worst work. It is noteworthy that this role is his last appearance in a big movie, after which he stopped acting.
