Modern agencies have conducted research in more than 150 countries and determined the quality of living conditions for women. A rating was created, which included the most dangerous and poorly developed states, where the economic, political and social systems are unfavorable for women. The current strict patriarchy, lawless violence, partial or complete lack of civil rights make such countries undesirable either for emigration or for tourism. Well, the women living there have been brought up without rights since childhood and within the framework of a significant gender gap, so they get used to living in an unfair world.
Let’s take a look at the top 10 countries ranked as the most uninhabitable for women.
10 Nigeria
The country is not economically developed enough, so the living conditions and income per person do not ensure the normal prosperity of citizens. Only 17% of women of sexually mature age (15-24 years) have the opportunity to study and receive education. This is due to the fact that it is customary in the country to marry a girl as early as possible, and 20% of them give birth annually. The uncontrolled birth rate among young girls leads to early deterioration of the body and psyche, the development of diseases against the backdrop of poverty and poor living conditions. Therefore, Nigeria was ranked last in the ranking of countries suitable for women to live.
9. Pakistan
The attitude towards a woman in the country is extremely dismissive – her personality is suppressed, often does not have the right to have her own desires. For example, in some areas, men may rape women as punishment for the misdeeds of their husbands. The feminization of the population is not allowed at all. The country’s religious extremism is destroying women politicians, as well as workers in the justice and law enforcement agencies. In families, a woman is often subjected to physical violence, as there is no adequate law to prevent this. Yes, and women who are allowed to work by their husbands receive on average 80% less from the state than men – this is the distribution of wages by gender.
8. Mali
The state is considered one of the poorest in the world, as well as socially disadvantaged for women. They rarely manage to avoid the circumcision shown, which deprives the girl of the opportunity to experience sexual pleasure. The state has not created a regulatory law that allows a woman to make her own decisions about her health. Girls are also forced into early marriage and childbearing, which leads to high mortality during pregnancy and childbirth – up to 10%. In terms of education, one third of girls do not even finish primary school. No more than 9% of women are allowed into politics, and even then they are subjected to humiliating treatment by men. The country’s per capita income is predominantly $2 a day.
7. Iraq
Previously, women in Iraq were quite literate, but the situation has changed dramatically over the past three decades. The number of literate and working women has fallen sharply – religious leaders prescribe them a special position in the home and marriage, but the law does not regulate rights and freedoms. For example, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has still not let women into responsible government positions. According to UN data 8 years ago, 20% of women in Iraq are victims of domestic violence. And in 2012 it became known that more than a third of married girls are subjected to violence by their husbands.
6. Democratic Republic of the Congo
The country is one of the most promising in Africa and has the potential to become rich thanks to the impressive deposits of natural resources. However, as a result of mismanagement, the DRC remains the least developed – about 7,5 million people live below the poverty line and are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance and charity. The war in the eastern regions has taken the lives of more than 3 million citizens, including many women, because they are obliged to fight on the front lines. They are also subjected to attacks and violence by the warring entities. According to statistics, more than a thousand women are raped every day. More than half of pregnant women have a disease associated with a lack of hemoglobin in the body. And women do not have the right to sign documents without the permission of their husband.
5. Sudan
In this state, a third of women aged 15 to 49, according to a survey, sincerely believe that a man has the right to beat his wife under certain circumstances. Also, early marriages are practiced in the country – about 34% of the girls surveyed reported that they were married before the age of majority. Sudanese women have been able to reform some of the laws, but their situation in the western part of the country remains difficult. Since 2003, for example, rape, forced removals and kidnappings have taken the lives of more than 1 million women.
4. Yemen
The rights of the female population are oppressed in the country, and the issue of education is acute. Parents marry girls from the age of 7, so there can be no talk of school. Some 26 million women and girls are at risk of male violence, and 52 may be victims of rape. At the same time, women do not have the right to divorce their monster husband, and they also do not receive inheritance and custody of joint children.
3. Central African Republic
The public entity has been involved in armed confrontation for five years now, against the background of which cases of violence against women often flare up. The average duration of education for children is 7 years. Only 12,5% of women are represented in government, which is too low to lobby for laws that protect their rights.
2. The Syrian Arab Republic
We all know about the organized military conflict that has been going on for more than 7 years in Syria. The bloody and cruel period makes the republic unsuitable for peaceful living and the realization of motherhood. Women and children are regularly killed in terrorist attacks, all against the backdrop of a humanitarian crisis. The reality of this country is manifested in cruel torture, violence, rape, insufficient quality of food and water. The oppressed position of women and their lack of rights in the state is increasing.
1. Somalia
According to a UNICEF report, 95% of girls aged 4 to 11 undergo inhuman female circumcision, which makes it impossible to have a full sexual life. In parliament, women hold no more than 7,5 seats, which leads to a crisis in the legislative protection of their rights. An average of 9% of women can give birth in health facilities, while the rest go through often unhygienic home births without the participation of a trained health worker. Mortality of a woman and a newborn increases several times compared to developed countries. The state’s capital, Mogadishu, has also experienced a prolonged civil war and a surge in crime, raising the risk of physical violence and rape of women.
In the above countries, a woman cannot fully realize her potential, she loses the opportunity to develop as a person, a professional, and even a mother. At such moments, you understand that the economic crises of our country are nothing compared to a life filled with fear, illiteracy and a specific form of domestic slavery.
