Don’t tell me you really like them!
There are interiors that always look modern – even today, even twenty years ago, even fifty. And to our grandchildren, they are also unlikely to seem something archaic. And there are some design moves that are outdated, not having time to take root – all because they were, to put it mildly, unsuccessful. We have collected the ugliest trends that were once in fashion. Now no one follows them – and thank God.
1. Plasterboard waves
On the ceiling first. Those complicated ceilings! Decorated with ornaments, carvings, God knows what else – in typical Khrushchevs, all this beauty looked ridiculous and strange. The trend appeared in the XNUMXs and sank into oblivion a few years later. However, in many apartments such ceilings are still preserved. After all, such a delicacy was quite expensive, and it is hardly a good idea to start a new expensive renovation just for the sake of fashion.
2. Wooden panels
Or, which was much more common, pseudo-wooden ones. In the late 70s they were popular in the West, in the late 90s in our country. Such wall decoration, especially with dark materials, made the room look not at all solid, as implied, but smaller than it really is. Dark walls pressed and thickened the darkness. Although for those who keep pets, such walls were a salvation from cat’s claws – pets like to leave only rags from wallpaper. Now this trend has turned into accent wall fashion. And this year the main color for them is bright blue and green.
3. Linoleum on the floor
This type of coverage is still in demand with us. After all, linoleum is inexpensive, easy to maintain, easy to lay, and looks pretty decent. However, designers are turning up their noses now: there are worthy alternatives that look much more elegant and last longer. In addition, linoleum can evaporate toxic compounds that make up its composition into the air.
4. Bath rugs
Here the designers are unanimous: it is unhygienic, impractical and ugly. Though it is pleasant to get out of the bath or shower for something soft and warm. At one time, rugs in the bathroom were at their peak: the rooms were almost completely upholstered with them. And now it is believed that this is the same last century as the carpets on the walls. By the way, fluffy carpets on the floor also fell out of favor. They are too difficult to clean, so a regular thick, short pile rug is considered much more trendy.
5. Rustic furniture in a city apartment
For a very long time, designers have tried to make friends with a rustic style and urban housing. After all, everyone wants to be closer to nature, so why not create an opportunity to touch it without leaving the concrete walls of your dwelling. But no. The idea fell through, as wicker and raw wood furnishings require appropriate spaces and furnishings. And ordinary apartments, and even in high-rise buildings, are too cramped. This symbiosis looks silly, so rustic remains only for country houses.
6. TV stands
Ho ho, this is the main object in the house – the blue screen. At least this was the case before the widespread spread of the Internet. The larger the TVs became, the larger the stands for them became. They grew, expanded, turned into whole shelves with shelves and doors. There is little sense from them, but such pedestals take up a lot of space. Now they prefer to mount TVs to the wall, even if they are placed on a compact stand, otherwise there is a great risk that the miracle of technology will cheburah directly onto the owner.
7. Artificial flowers and fruits
Dead energy – against such delights as dummies of fruits and artificial flowers, esotericists, adherents of feng shui, and designers unanimously speak out. Nowadays, of course, there are flowers that cannot be distinguished from real ones. But still, living things are better, especially since it is now very fashionable to use pots with plants as design elements. Well, the extreme manifestation of craving for the artificial is stuffed animals and real skins. A disgusting trend, whatever one may say, it is good that it is no longer in fashion.
8. Inspirational quotes
Posters on the walls are awful. This is the conclusion reached by experts from Samsung, having arranged a survey. As a result, the majority of respondents recognized this trend as the most annoying of all. However, he reached Russia not so long ago, so posters with quotes have yet to get bored with us.
9. Armchairs-bags
When they first appeared, everyone literally fell in love with this furniture without a frame. It happened in the 70s, but the fashion for bean bags quickly passed. And in the XNUMXs she returned. However, now it is quite difficult to imagine such furniture that harmoniously fits into the urban interior. In art spaces or in nature – yes, but at home – still not.
10. Heavy draperies and ruffles
Curtains with lambrequins were at one time considered a sign of luxury. And now – a morally outdated interior, pretentious and devoid of style. The fashion for bedspreads with ruffles and frills has also passed – and even some 25 years ago they were literally everywhere. Minimalism is seeping everywhere now in one form or another. So the design of textiles is becoming more and more laconic.
