If you stop on the street and ask a person if he is honest with his surroundings, then with a high degree of probability he will answer yes. And as practice and statistics show, many people in the modern world lead a “double life”: they betray spouses, live in several families, have a couple of citizenships, combine several jobs, or even hide sexual addictions or manic inclinations under the skin of a “lamb”.
That is why the very idea of a double life is a favorite topic of screenwriters, which is being incorporated into modern series more and more often. And it is fashionable not only to glorify the heroes working undercover, but also to bring to the judgment of the audience vices, such as betrayal, dark natures and even cannibalism.
The fact that the villains act as the main characters, and they are also credited with positive qualities, speaks of the degradation of our television. Children are taught from childhood that even a maniac or a cannibal in his soul can be a kind and sympathetic person, an assistant to mankind.
This is how stereotypes are being replaced, a generation of morally traumatized people with violated “standards” is being formed.
We provide a selection of 10 series about a double life for edifying purposes. Learn to recognize who is really a good hero, and who is evil wrapped in a candy wrapper.
10 Ozark | 2017-…
The idea is as old as the world. We follow the transformation of a peasant from a modest and kind man into a central figure in the struggle of Mexican drug lords.
Marty was an ordinary financial consultant who was randomly embroiled in a mess: after the murder of his partner, he must give an impressive amount to drug dealers.
In addition, the need to create a money laundering scheme was hung on the poor fellow. Marty moves to the city of the Ozarks with his wife and kids, after which he begins to lead his double life. Judge for yourself, is this a positive reincarnation?
9. Steel star | 2017-…
This time, the center of the story is none other than a policeman (I was also surprised).
Jim moves with his family to a small town, where he was entrusted to lead the local police. Not far from the town, an oil refinery was opened, into which migrants from all over the world flocked. This was followed by a surge in drug trafficking, prostitution and crime.
Jim tries in vain to put his life in order, but he does not succeed well – new personality transformations are required.
8. Handsome 2011
Our foreign review also included a Russian TV series – a light and fairly positive comedy. Sasha can’t get her dream job because of gender stereotypes.
And the head of the architectural bureau, where she aspires, considers the girls unreliable and irresponsible. Sasha was going to get into the company at any cost, even if she had to take the form of a guy.
The frail “handsome” is still taken to the coveted post, where he does an excellent job with his official duties. And, of course, Sasha, in the form of a guy, could not help but fall in love with the new boss. Temka hackneyed, but once you can see.
7. Sneaky Pete | 2013-…
The story tells about the sly Marius, who spends time in prison. His brother, on the eve of the end of his prison term, scares Marius that a huge debt to the gangster Vince has not yet been forgiven.
The guy thinks how not to fall into the clutches of the enemy, while not returning to dark deeds. To do this, he has to pretend to be his cellmate Pete and run away to live in the village with his family.
Marius-Pete does not even guess what the newly-made family has prepared for him.
6. Breaking Bad | 2008-2013
The key series of our review, if only because it “went” to the modern viewer.
In the first frame, we are introduced to the chemistry teacher Walter, who is suffering from lung cancer. The man does not have money for treatment and maintenance of the family, so he decides to get involved in a financial adventure. And then, just in time, Jesse’s student comes across, selling methamphetamine.
And then the “teacher” decides to use his knowledge of chemistry to get rich on human vices, offering a new type of drug for big money.
5. Lovers | 2014-…
The name of the series already speaks for itself.
We meet Allison, a waitress who has lost her baby, causing family relationships to collapse. It seems that she does not care much about the condition of her husband, who is also in pain, but is trying with all his might to help his wife and at the same time deal with financial troubles.
Also in the frame appears a romantic school teacher Noah, who is happily married and raises 4 heirs.
Allison and Noah accidentally meet on the beach (as they say, “a fool sees a fool from afar”), after which they develop an affair.
The viewer spends time on a tense family drama, where he is forced to sympathize with unscrupulous people.
4. Underground empire | 2010-2014
For 4 whole years, the story was filmed about Enoch Thompson, who worked in the city treasury during the day, and at night unfolded an insidious and carefully planned gangster activity under the “roof” of the most famous personalities.
All the action takes place in 1920 in Atlantic City, which is on the verge of entering Prohibition.
Thompson decides to use the situation for his own purposes to obtain unrealistic profits, so he decides to sell alcohol underground. And, of course, he was not the only one who turned out to be so cunningly wise – meet enemies, accomplices and competitors.
3. Duplicate | 2017-…
Elderly Howard ekes out a miserable existence – is an element of the bureaucratic system of the United Nations Agency. For many years, a man has been thinking about a promotion that still does not happen.
And then he learns that the agency has access to a parallel dimension, from where, for no apparent reason, his double penetrates. The other Howard is highly skilled, self-confident. He wants with the help of the current Howard to pull off a serious matter that prevents a catastrophe.
2. Hannibal | 2013-2015
This series needs no introduction. As many as two main characters, one of which is extremely destructive, but exhibited in the best possible light.
Will is a profiler who helps the federal bureau catch serial killers. He has the gift of empathy and other paranormal abilities.
But in special cases, Will turns to Dr. Lector, the same Hannibal, who in parallel leads the life of a bloodthirsty and cynical cannibal.
1. Dexter | 2006-2013
And another similar series, where a cute modest fellow, part-time blood forensic expert in the police, manages to periodically kill people.
Dex’s secret cannot be solved by the best minds of the police, while the list of his victims is measured in dozens.
The guy is presented to us as a kind of “good cop”, who uses the “Code” in his manic activities and punishes only bad people with righteous justice. Whether Dex crosses the line – you be the judge!
Here is such an interesting review we got. Look, analyze and form the right worldview. Remember that in every modern film (especially American) there is a second semantic series.
