10 tips from someone who became a millionaire at 37

Chris Reining, entrepreneur and financial advisor, made his first million dollars well before forty. Below you will find his “rules of life” that helped him achieve success. They seem to be far more important than specific recommendations on what to invest in and how to grow your business.

1. Be ready to leave

Out of work and out of relationships, severing friendships or work contracts. Not afraid that those around you will judge you for it. If someone or something does not enrich your life, you can and should part with it.

2. Break the rules

We are expected to move along a strictly defined route all our life: we will graduate from the university, find a good well-paid job, buy an apartment or a house, have children. And if you really want it, great. Just remember that life can be completely different – the way you wish.

3. Learn to know when to say yes and when to say no

We’ve been told for a long time how important it is to say yes to every opportunity that comes along. And it really helps to try new things and emerge from your “bubble”. However, having found your true purpose in life, something that really turns you on, you need to learn to give up everything that will interfere with your path to achieving this goal.

4. Remember: the main thing that gives money is the opportunity to choose.

And not at all the ability to buy expensive clothes or cars.

5. Maintain your own account

There will always be those who are smarter, richer, more successful and more charismatic than you. Those who are better looking or have more influence over others. But, no matter how trite and hackneyed it may sound, it is worth comparing only yourself today with yourself yesterday.

6. Don’t waste time

Thinking about death can be a great motivator to figure out what else you want to get done and start moving in that direction. What do you want to remember at the end of your life – about what series you managed to watch, or about how you changed the world for the better?

7. Keep not only a diary, but also a “yearbook”

Or, as an option, a diary in which you will record your global thoughts and plans. It’s good to check in with the course from time to time and evaluate whether what you’ve been striving for has made you even a little happier.

8. Don’t try to be busy 24/7

This is not an achievement and will not pay for itself in any way. Much more important is to be able to find a balance between “necessary” and “want”, between accomplishments and pleasures.

9. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

To friends and psychologists, to coaches and those who have achieved more in your field than you. This is not a sign of weakness or that something is wrong with you – on the contrary, it is a sign that you are ready to look at the problem from a different angle and change.

10. But do not listen too often to other people’s advice.

Most give advice based on what they have experienced in life. But our experience is not universal. This means that the rules of conduct and recommendations of the next business guru, even the most successful one, will not necessarily suit you. Try not to stare at abstract “luminaries”, but listen to those who are dear to you. And after listening to other people’s opinions, make your own decision.
