Aliens, astronauts, time travel – you think about it and you get a dazzling sci-fi movie. Science fiction is arguably the best genre in the entire cinematic arena. It’s an incredibly flexible and inclusive field that allows writers, directors, and actors to showcase their creativity without being limited to other genres.
All sci-fi films can contain elements of action, drama, romance, adventure and mystery (with the best of them mixing sub-genres), without blurring the storylines. Basically, science fiction is a genre that offers something for everyone.
One of these films isPrometheus“. It is a 2012 science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott, written by Jon Spaiht and Damon Lindelof and starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce and starring Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron.
The film is set in the late 21st century and centers on the crew of the Prometheus spacecraft following a star chart discovered among the exhibits of several ancient Earth cultures. In search of the origins of humanity, the team arrives in a distant world and faces a threat that could lead to the extinction of the human species.

10 Apollo 18 (2011)
«Apollo-18is a 2011 American-Canadian alternate history horror sci-fi film written by Bryan Miller, directed by Gonzalo López-Gallego and produced by Timur Bekmambetov and Michele Wolkoff.
The film’s message is that the canceled Apollo 18 mission actually landed on the Moon in December 1974 but never returned, as a result, the United States never launched another expedition to the Moon.
The film is shot in the style of “found footage” of the Apollo 18 mission, which was discovered recently. However, the film received mostly negative reviews.
9. Mission to Mars (2000)
Brian De Palma directed this sci-fi unknown story. When the United States sends its first manned mission to marshopes for new scientific discoveries are high, but many of those hopes are dashed when the Mars crew faces an unexplained disaster: three members of the mission are killed and a fourth loses radio contact with Earth.
The rescue mission intends to bring back the sole survivor; in the process, they discover that Mars is not a dead planet at all, and discover some startling evidence about the fate of their predecessors.
The screenplay was partially awarded by playwright Ted Tully, who won an Oscar for his adaptation of The Silence of the Lambs.
8. Origin (2018)
Single mother Brittany struggles with her daily life trying to balance raising her children and being a nurse. Dedicated to both, she always sacrifices herself.
One day, strange things began to happen: people get sick with a highly contagious virus of an unknown Origin, which turns them into aggressive killers. The hospital is overcrowded and over time the disease progresses until the hospital becomes the epicenter.
Brittany barely saves her life, and with the help of a small group of survivors, she must fight her way home and rescue her young children, if they are still alive.
7. Pandorum (2009)
Two astronauts wake up in a cryochamber aboard a seemingly derelict spacecraft. Absolute darkness, they are disoriented, and the only sound is a low rumbling and creaking from the belly of the ship. They can’t remember anything. Who are they? What is their mission? They develop a syndrome pandorum.
The protagonists penetrate deep into the ship and begin to reveal the horrific reality. Gradually, the shocking and deadly secrets of the spaceship are revealed, and the astronauts find their own survival at stake far more than they could ever imagine.
6. Through the Horizon (1997)
In 2047, a group of astronauts is sent to reconnoiter and rescue the long-lost ship, the Event Horizon. The ship mysteriously disappeared 7 years prior on its maiden voyage, and with its return comes even more mysteries as the Lewis & Clark crew discover the real truth behind its disappearance and something even more horrific as it passes through the horizon.

4. Alien: Covenant (2017)
According to the story”Alien: Covenant“Nearly eleven years after the disastrous expedition to the distant moon LV-223, the deep space colonization vessel Covenant, with over 2000 colonists in cryogenic hibernation, embarks on a journey to the remote planet Origae-6 with the intention of building a new world.
Instead, a rogue transmission tempts the team to fly to a nearby habitable planet that resembles Earth. Unsuspecting crew members will have to deal with biological enemies beyond human comprehension.
Ultimately, what was meant to be a peaceful exploration mission will soon turn into a desperate rescue operation in uncharted space.
3. 5th passenger (2018)
2151, after the eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera volcano, throwing the Earth into chaos, 5th passenger tells the story of a secretly pregnant female officer and her crew of four, floating in deep space in an escape pod after their transport ship explodes before reaching a new planet.
The team falls apart when they run out of air, but they must work together to find the evil lurking aboard their ship before it kills them all.
2. Live (2017)
Six astronauts aboard the space station are studying a sample collected from Mars that could provide evidence of extraterrestrial life on the Red Planet. The crew determines that the sample contains a large single-celled organism – the first example of life off Earth.
But what we see is not always what it seems. When a team starts doing research and their experiments end up with unforeseen consequences, living turns out to be more reasonable than anyone could have expected.

In 2057, the Sun begins to die, and the Earth dies as a result. A team of astronauts is sent to revive the Sun – but the mission is a failure. Seven years later, a new team is sent to complete a mission that is humanity’s last hope.
The cast includes Cillian Murphy, Chris Evans, Rose Byrne, Michelle Yeoh, Cliff Curtis, Troy Garity, Hiroyuki Sanada, Benedict Wong and Chipo Cheung. The director hired a group of international actors for the film who lived together all the while and explored topics related to their roles as a form of acting.
