Old age is a loose concept. It comes to everyone at the right time. This is not only an increase in the number of wrinkles on the face and body, the addition of gray hair, the appearance of sores, which I had not thought about before. These are also habits characteristic of old age, as well as a general change in the way of thinking.
What used to cause bewilderment or regret when looking at older relatives, imperceptibly for the person himself, becomes part of his personality. And so yesterday’s young man (or girl) turns into a mature man (or woman), and then into an old man (old woman).
The fact that old age comes into its own is evidenced by 10 important signs:
10 Decreased immunity
With the onset of old age in the human body, antibodies that stand in the way of harmful viruses and bacteria are not produced as actively as under the “young shell”. Because of this, the sores begin to simply “stick” to the person. And each new one pulls the next. If earlier, if something happened, everything went away on its own, now it is much more difficult to cure the disease.
The disease is gradually becoming an integral part of life. The expression becomes relevant: “if you get up in the morning and nothing hurts, then you are dead.”
9. slowness
With the onset of old age, movements slow down, and for many they become cautious. What used to be done effortlessly turns into a separate task that requires special concentration.
Slowness begins to manifest itself not only in the physical plane, but also at the level of thinking and perception. And now the TV is already annoying, in which the host of the youth program, as if from a machine gun, scribbles with quick phrases. I want to switch to TV shows where they speak much more slowly.
And in general, there is a need to live leisurely.
8. Reluctance to visit
The lack of desire to make visits manifests itself in old age even in the most active and very sociable people. You can still receive guests in your house, but dragging yourself somewhere to the other side of the city or even to a neighboring street, especially in the evening, becomes completely unbearable.
After a nice tea party or even a full dinner at a party, you want to immediately lie down on your favorite bed or do your usual household chores. And you still have to get to your porch. So it turns out that it’s easier not to go anywhere at all.
7. Propensity to hoard
Old age is traditionally associated with poverty. At the same time, having reached a certain age, anyone begins to understand that tomorrow even those forces that are today may not be at work. You may or may not be able to make money. And if a serious illness overtakes, you can even remain a beggar, having spent all the stash on treatment. Therefore, over the years, the habit of saving becomes stronger.
There is an underlying desire to set aside money for death, but otherwise the desire to create a personal monetary fund ceases to be associated with a specific goal. Money itself is becoming more and more like “vitamins for the heart.”
6. Deterioration of vision and hearing
As the years go by, you can no longer see and hear so clearly. It is a fact. The mucous membrane of the eye is no longer working as efficiently. In the eyes there is an increasing feeling of dryness.
The eye muscles weaken, signs of senile vision appear, when it is difficult to see objects that are close.
Wax builds up faster in the ears, and in many people the eardrum thickens and the cartilage on the outside of the ear increases in size. This leads to hearing loss.
5. Rare wardrobe update
A sign of old age is the loss of interest in new things. Little things like that don’t matter.
The convenience of clothing becomes much more important than its beauty. If an old, once elegant dress, while remaining comfortable, has lost its former gloss, this is not a reason to throw it away for a new outfit. An aged person can no longer impress those around him with his appearance, which means that it is not necessary to chase after fashion – many people argue this way, having reached the period of old age.
4. Lips lost color and volume
As you age, your lips become less bright and plump than when you were younger. In many older people, this part of the face is sometimes almost invisible. As life progresses, the same processes occur with the lips as with the skin in general. Collagen production is reduced, tissue elasticity is lost. And diseases associated with the blood and the state of the vessels lead to a change in the color of the lips.
3. Increasing sleep time
From a certain age, people begin to notice that they often want to sleep. And even though the normal sleep of an elderly person is only six and a half hours, over the years the desire to spend more time in sleep becomes more and more obvious. This is due to the fact that the duration of superficial sleep increases, and in the deep stage a person spends much less time than in his youth.
Superficial sleep does not allow you to get enough sleep, so senile slumber turns into a common thing.
2. Problems with new technologies
In old age, people do not grasp information as quickly as in younger years. But the point is not only that the learning process at a more mature age becomes more difficult, but also in the conservatism inherent in the elderly.
Often, old people do not perceive technical novelty, because they do not understand how it can be useful to them in life. And even if there is an opportunity for a simpler and more modern way to solve the problem, it is easier for them to use the old methods.
1. Condemnation of others
Behavior, when a person condemns, if not everyone around, then many, it is not by chance that it becomes a companion of old age. Often this condemnation is of an aggressive nature.
The older a person becomes, the more he moves away from the active part of society. Over time, he begins to notice that his opinion ceases to matter, and this cannot but cause irritation.
The rigidity of views on the world, the unwillingness to accept it as it is today also plays its role.
