Many of us associate endometriosis with difficulties in getting pregnant. The disease results in changes in the mucous membrane that lines the uterus. Glandular cells are formed that have a secretory activity, like the endometrium, i.e. the lining of the uterus. As a consequence, it leads to inflammations, infections and lowers the quality of life of women affected by endometriosis.
According to estimates, up to 15% of women, mainly in childbearing age, struggle with endometriosis. It is true that changing eating habits will not completely solve the problem, but it will alleviate the ailments that result from the disease, and even allow you to avoid it.
10 rules of nutrition for women with endometriosis!
- Reach for fruits and vegetables every day, which are rich in antioxidants that strengthen hormonal balance and immunity. By choosing green vegetables and any fruit in fresh form, you will reduce the likelihood of endometriosis by as much as 40%.
- Prostaglandins produced by eating red meat contribute to increased soreness and inflammation. To make matters worse, frequent consumption of red meat increases the risk of developing endometriosis by up to 100%. Instead, we can safely eat turkey, poultry or fish.
- If we are struggling with endometriosis, it is especially recommended to follow a balanced diet. Varied meals, from which we must eliminate highly processed food, should be eaten once every 3-4 hours. Also avoid coffee and alcohol.
- Omega-3 fatty acids found in sea fish reduce uterine contractions.
- Including plant sterols in the diet along with peas, celery or garlic reduces the activity of estrogens in the body. If estrogen is present in excess, there is hyperplasia of the endometrium, which directly promotes endometriosis.
- In addition, elevated estrogen levels will reduce the regular consumption of broccoli or cauliflower, which beneficially stimulates liver enzymes in endometriosis patients.
- Dairy products will relieve uterine muscle spasms during menstruation, headaches and soreness in the pelvic area. The calcium present in them will also have a positive effect on the condition of the bones. To prevent the growth of prostaglandins, avoid fatty dairy products.
- Sunflower and pumpkin seeds, due to zinc, support the emotional condition of women who suffer from endometriosis.
- Take care of the correct body weight. If you suffer from overweight, the loss of unnecessary ballast will have a positive effect on the hormones, which in turn will have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the body.
- Fiber will improve digestive functions and reduce estrogen, so it is worth eating coarse groats, wholegrain cereal products, brown rice, apples, rhubarb, squash or carrots.
