More and more people are leaning towards the use of herbal products. And this trend is emerging for a reason right now. At a time when vegetarianism, veganism and raw food diets require a systematic and radical approach (here you cannot justify eaten schnitzel by the fact that your aunt had a birthday yesterday) and therefore confine themselves to the framework of their communities, a more flexible approach to nutrition and a healthy lifestyle is becoming popular. life. From exhausting workouts in fitness rooms, we move on to a pleasant run in beautiful parks and embankments, from anxious calorie counting and strict weight control to a sensitive inner communication with our body. We no longer want to achieve ideal performance – we want to enjoy life and remain healthy at the same time.
This is why there are a growing number of people who are not ready to completely eliminate meat, fish, sugar or dairy products, but want to reduce the amount of animal products, replacing them with products based on plant ingredients.
Many of these products have excellent taste and natural composition – in this way we take care of health and get pleasure from eating. And if the word “superfoods” will surprise few people – products such as quinoa, goji berries and chia seeds have become a trend in recent years, then “superdrinks” – drinks containing useful substances and beneficial to the body – are the newest trend.
Nut drinks (or as they are also called nut “milk”) can be safely called a super drink: they are really healthy and, moreover, can serve as an excellent alternative to regular milk.
What’s wrong with regular milk?
Many useful properties are attributed to ordinary milk, but not all of them correspond to reality. “Children drink milk – you will be healthy,” grandparents told us. However, the main word in this proverb is “children”. Unlike children, an adult consumes a lot more different products, and many of them are based on milk (cottage cheese, butter, cheese, and others). Many dairy products contain milk sugar (lactose), which is more difficult for an adult to process than for a child: we do not have enough lactase, special enzymes produced by the intestines, for this.
Inadequate digestion of lactose leads to serious consequences, says Olga Mikhailovna Pavlova, endocrinologist, diabetologist, nutritionist, sports nutritionist: “digestion is disturbed, loose stools, discomfort, heaviness, bloating appear. According to various researchers, from 16 to 48% of people in the Russian Federation are deficient in lactase, and the amount of lactase decreases with age. ” She also emphasizes that milk contains proteins – casein and whey proteins: “Milk proteins have immunomodulatory properties, which can stimulate autoimmunity in people with a tendency to autoimmune diseases, and the disease will worsen.” And in the milk of factory production, antibiotics and hormones are often added, the harm of which has been known for a long time.
In addition, dermatologists, one after another, talk about the growth of skin inflammations against the background of the consumption of regular milk. Of course, for a perfectly healthy person, a small amount of ordinary milk is not dangerous, but there is practically no benefit from it either. So it’s worth considering really wholesome plant-based alternatives (like nutty drinks).
What is nut milk?
Nut “milk” is a drink for the production of which water and various nuts are used. Soaked nuts are thoroughly crushed, mixed with water and other herbal ingredients, and the result is transformed into a homogeneous drink that looks like milk. Almost any nut can be the basis for this unique drink.
What are the benefits of nut-based herbal drinks?
Nuts and drinks based on them are surprisingly healthy. Few things can compare in their valuable qualities with nuts. Compared to non-nut types of “milk” (oats, rice, soybeans), nut drinks contain a huge amount of nutrients and vitamins. Nuts are very rich in healthy fats and proteins, they will help you quickly restore energy and strength to your body. And in comparison with milk of animal origin, nut “milk” is absorbed by the body much better.
Nut drinks contain potassium and magnesium, which are good for the heart and blood vessels, iron, which is necessary for the process of hematopoiesis, B vitamins, which are especially important for the nervous system. And the drink based on walnuts is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, as well as lecithin, which have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the brain, improving memory and concentration.
Who is nut milk suitable for?
- People with lactose intolerance;
- People with gluten intolerance;
- Vegetarians and raw foodists;
