10 reasons to try on contact lenses

Surprisingly, millions of people choose to live in a blurry world and refuse to see a doctor when their vision begins to fail. In most cases – because of the unwillingness to wear glasses, but in fact from ignorance of what modern methods of vision correction are capable of.
October 10 is celebrated around the world as the Day of Sight. Gadgets, poor ecology and a frantic pace of life can lead to the fact that the number of people who are deprived of the opportunity to see the world clearly and in all the splendor of colors is growing exponentially. Among them are not only those whom modern medicine is not yet able to help, but also those that we talked about at the very beginning. More than 10 million Russians do not know or have forgotten how beautiful our world is, because they have poor eyesight, but they do nothing to correct it. And it is completely in vain, because it is through the eyes that we receive more than 80% of information about the world around us.
Why regular eye exams are important
Even if your eyesight is in order, you need to check it at least once a year. After all, any disease responds better to treatment at the very beginning. Moreover, the treatment does not have to be radical. It is quite possible that by choosing a suitable method of vision correction together with a doctor, you will completely forget about your problems. And do not think that once you visit a specialist in the selection of glasses, you can use an old recipe until it crumbles to dust in your hands. Changes in vision are always possible, and not only for the bad, but also for the good.
10 reasons to try on contact lenses
Gone are the days of Sparta, where any flaw in health was a reason to take a person’s life, but people stubbornly postpone a visit to an ophthalmologist, because they are afraid to learn about the need to wear glasses, or even to treat something at all! They forget that, firstly, glasses have long since passed into the category of fashionable and relevant accessories, and secondly, this is far from the only correction option! In addition to glasses, there are, for example, contact lenses.
Let’s see what situations contact lenses can be comfortable in:
- Lenses will always be fashionable, because they fit any look, because they are not visible!
- Contact lenses can be handy for sports: they won’t fall off while running, won’t break under you in yoga, and won’t fog up in the gym.
- Contact lenses will not fog up even in winter when moving from a cold to a warm room.
- Those who wear glasses can rarely afford to admire the rain and relax for a walk in a foggy autumn park, but with lenses – please!
- Lenses enable the eyes to focus and maintain clear vision in any direction of sight and head position, provide a full view, as they move with the eyeball. Wherever you look – up or to the side – everything will be seen equally clearly.
- Lenses are usually worn in the morning and removed only in the evening, no matter what you have to do during the day.
- The lenses won’t fall suddenly, shatter, or break, so it can be easier to be active and go on adventures when your soul demands it, rather than according to plan.
- If you only use glasses for driving or reading, there is a risk of finding yourself in a situation where you forgot your glasses at home and your plans have to be changed. There are lenses that will allow you to read or access the screen of your phone and tablet during the day without any problems and will not distort your vision in other situations, but you can wear them in the morning for the whole day.
MYTH # 1: contact lenses are only for myopic
Modern contact lenses are used for:
- myopia,
- hyperopia,
- astigmatism (thanks to a special manufacturing technology, the lens is held in the correct position on the eye by the natural movements of the eyelids),
- age-related hyperopia (presbyopia is corrected with special multifocal lenses that can be worn all day).
MYTH # 2: contact lenses are painful and uncomfortable.
A small excursion into history: at the end of the 60th century, the German ophthalmologist August Müller made and used the first glass lenses for the correction of myopia. Here they were, perhaps, very uncomfortable. In the late XNUMXs, Czech scientist Otto Wichterle figured out how to make contact lenses from a soft polymer that can absorb water. But they were still big, tough, and not safe enough. More than half a century has passed since then, and technologies have stepped not just forward, but practically beyond the horizon. Most contact lenses are now made from hydrogel or silicone hydrogel and are flexible, thin, moisturized and oxygen-permeable. Correctly selected, they are absolutely not felt in the eye and do not remind of themselves in any way: they do not scratch, do not dry, do not move out. After training with a lens fitter, you can immediately put on and take off your lenses yourself.
MYTH # 3: contact lenses are bad for the eyes
Most modern soft contact lenses are made from materials that allow oxygen to pass to the eye. These include, for example, Acuvue contact lenses®which also block harmful UV rays, further protecting your eyes*… Provided proper care of contact lenses, their timely replacement and regular visits to the doctor, they are completely safe.
MYTH # 4: the lens can fall out, “leave” behind the eye or stick
A correctly fitted lens cannot fall out – it fits snugly to the eye and is held in place by the tear film. Thanks to the tear barrier, it also does not stick to the eye. A contact lens cannot get lost behind the eye, since the eye is covered with a membrane connected to the eyelid from the inside, and it simply has nowhere to “go”. If the lens has shifted from the center of the eye, which is extremely rare, it can be replaced by a simple blink or gently moved with your finger.
MYTH # 5: contact lenses can not be worn by children, adolescents, people over 40
Age is not a contraindication to wearing contact lenses. There are physiological features that have nothing to do with age, which can become an obstacle to the dream of parting with glasses, but they are very rare.
MYTH # 6: contact lenses are expensive
Contact lenses, like glasses, are different. It all depends on the type of lenses chosen, the frequency of use and the replacement mode (they can be one day, which are thrown away at the end of the day, and two weeks, which must be removed every day at night and after two weeks switch to a new pair).
What not to do with lenses
Very few things, in fact:
- you can’t sleep in them,
- swim and take a shower,
- wear them for infectious eye diseases, as well as ARVI.
How to know which lenses are right for you
The selection of contact lenses should be handled by a vision correction specialist in optics with the necessary diagnostic equipment. This is the only way to make sure that you have no contraindications for wearing contact lenses, correctly select the optical power of the lenses (in most cases, it will not match your glasses), learn how to use them correctly and eliminate waste of money. Ideally, a specialist should be visited once a year.
How to choose which optics to contact? There is, for example, the MyAcuvue mobile app® (MyAcuview), which allows you to take care of your eyesight online. In it, you can chat with a specialist in the selection of contact lenses, find the nearest optician and make an appointment at a convenient time for you, earn points for purchasing Acuvue lenses® (Aquview) and exchange them for discounts and bonus packages, as well as set up a reminder to buy a new package or the need to conduct a routine eye exam.

*UV contact lenses are not a substitute for UV filtered glasses as they do not completely cover the eyes and the area around the eye.
