10 Dovlatov
Directed by Alexei German Jr. The plot is based on the story of the writer Dovlatov. Only a few days of his life are described. The 70s, Dovlatov’s friend is going to emigrate, and Sergey is concerned about completely different problems. He writes stories, but they do not want to publish him and do not accept writers into the Soviet Union. Accordingly, he is nobody. In the film, funny stories are replaced by sad ones. The atmosphere of that time is perfectly conveyed. Talented people could not get through, everyone lived by decree, no one had to stand out. A film without a dynamic plot keeps you in suspense from beginning to end. In addition, the actors are chosen perfectly, they perfectly played their roles.
9. Acid
The debut of director Alexander Gorchilin. This film is about people who just turned 20 yesterday. They are young and reckless. Sasha and Petya make music, perform at parties, quarrel with others and with each other. There is no place for boredom in their life, but for some reason they constantly feel lonely. 8. Heart of the world
Joint project of Russia and Lithuania, directed by Natalia Meshchaninova. This is the story of an ordinary veterinarian. He works at a training station for hunting dogs. The owner lives here with his family. The station is in the middle of nowhere, and there is no one else to communicate with except for customers and their dogs. Veterinarian Yegor wants to become part of his owner’s family, he is ready for anything to achieve his goal. Film critics positively evaluated the film. They noted that the film was shot in such a way that it seems as if the camera simply recorded life, that this is not a production and not a game of actors. A very kind story.
7. Summer
Directed by Kirill Serebrennikov. This is an author’s work about the formation of Russian rock. The main characters are Viktor Tsoi, a member of the popular group Mike and his wife Natalya. Here you will not find answers to questions about where Russian rock came from and where it went. But it will help to find out how the musicians themselves treated rock. The movie is called a little strange, it lives up to its name. Bright, chaotic, but unbanal. It is called the standard of biographical cinema. Of course, it is not designed for a mass audience and not everyone will like it. Definitely worth watching for older people, they will feel nostalgic. Old songs, Leningrad – an excellent occasion to remember youth.
6. About love. Only for adults
Collaboration of several directors. The film is a series of stories of different people. One director worked on each, there are 7 in total. People are looking for the answer to the question: “Where to find your love and how to keep it?”. The film is quite good-natured, funny. Neither swingers, nor BDSM, nor horny men, nor women who have not had sex for a long time, do not make it vulgar. It has no deep meaning, but it is worth a look. After all, modern people have forgotten what love is. Yes, they dream of a soul mate, meet her, several years pass, and they cease to appreciate each other. Only the eldest daughter can help them. For her brother, she would do anything. The film received many awards and nominations, including at the Cannes Film Festival. However, the film is not for everyone, it is quite difficult to perceive. Despite the fact that the film is about human feelings, not everyone will be able to understand them. For those who are accustomed to action, “Closeness” will seem like a boring and tedious film.
3. Hostages
The film is Russian-Georgian. Directed by Rezo Gigineishvili. Again, the film is based on true events. It describes a case that occurred in Georgia. Young people, “golden youth” hijack a plane to leave the Union. After all, here they feel not free. They easily decide on the case, hoping that the plan will work. But things didn’t go the way they wanted. Several people died, several were seriously injured. By the way, the hostages are not only those who were taken by young people, but they themselves are also hostages. They became hostages of their fear and the situation. A heavy film, after watching there is a desire to think about life.
2. Anna Karenina
History of Vronsky. A film by Karen Shakhnazarov. There is a Russo-Japanese war. An officer is brought to the hospital where Karenina’s son works. Sergei learns that it was this officer who caused the death of his mother and father. Karenin decides to ask the questions that have long tormented him to Vronsky. He, in turn, shares his story with Sergei. True, his story is completely different from the story of Anna. “Every person has their own truth,” he says. And indeed it is. The film provides an amazing opportunity to look at a familiar story from the other side.

The picture is literally saturated with a sense of hopelessness. The movie is heavy, but the human desire for life is striking. The film is quite complex, it certainly won’t brighten up the evening, but apparently Russian directors want to shoot not only funny comedies. But again there will be a reason to think about life.
