10 must-see movies of 2018

Last year 2018 gave us a lot of good films, some of which went unnoticed despite big budgets and good cast.

Today we decided to collect 10 must-see films, but we took not only well-known blockbusters, but also a couple of controversial films, weak box office or criticism of which does not at all indicate poor quality.

10 Avengers: Infinity War

10 must-see movies of 2018

So much has already been written about the first part of the battle between the Avengers and Thanos that it is rather difficult to add something new. The film is definitely one of the best in the superhero franchise, the quality of the plot, it can be put on a par with the first “Iron Man”, which is considered exemplary.

The special effects and the level of the “epic” on the screen are beyond praise. The impression of the film was slightly spoiled by the fresh “Captain Marvel”, which became a frank disappointment, and this particular character will become one of the key ones in the final part.

9. Halloween

10 must-see movies of 2018

The film is a direct continuation of the 1978 horror film, completely ignoring all the events that have taken place in the sequels filmed since then (which were not always successful).

Jamie Lee Curtis, who is already 60 years old, returned to her role again. She plays the aged Laurie Strode, who has been living for 40 years waiting for the day Michael Myers comes back to kill her.

She learned to handle weapons and taught her daughter this, but when a maniac in a mask still comes, she turns out to be completely unprepared, so she won’t get an easy victory.

Despite some blunders, the film as a whole turned out to be solid (you can feel the participation of the creator of the franchise, John Carpenter, who acted as a producer).

8. Quiet place

10 must-see movies of 2018

Another horror movie that, unlike Halloween, does not belong to any franchise and is completely new. The main idea is a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by blind monsters who rely solely on hearing.

Because of this, the surviving people are forced to move as quietly as possible, since even a polite “thank you” can attract the attention of monsters. The picture became the best in 2018 in its genre, collecting an impressive box office – $ 340 million with a budget of only 17 million.

7. The girl who got stuck in the web

10 must-see movies of 2018

The film was both a sequel and a soft reboot of David Fincher’s 2011 thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This time, Fede Alvarez was in the director’s chair, having shot in 2016 the horror film Don’t Breathe, which, with a budget of $9.9 million, grossed over $150 million.

Instead of Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, little-known actors starred, which, although it affected the overall quality of the picture, did not make it bad at all.

6. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

10 must-see movies of 2018

The sequel to Fantastic Beasts turned out to be worse than the first part, but the point here is not so much in the quality of the entire film, but in the stupidity of the script, since everything else is on top. It’s strange when the children in Harry Potter act more logically and smarter than the adults, experienced Aurors in the new franchise do.

Despite this, you still need to watch the picture: at least in order to then understand the events of the third part, which will be released approximately at the beginning of 2021. Such a long break is due to the fact that Rowling writes scripts along the way, so it will take a long time to finish the entire story, which will consist of 5 films.

5. Alpha

10 must-see movies of 2018

The film, released in 3D and IMAX, was, according to the plans of the creators, to become, if not a box office hit, then at least a confident middle peasant, but failed at the box office. With a budget of $51 million, it managed to raise less than $100 million, but, as is often the case, it’s more about bad marketing than the film itself.

The historical drama about the adventures of people who lived 20 years ago received almost 000% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, so if you like stories about the life of primitive people, be sure to watch it, spend an hour and a half not in vain.

4. Братья Sisters

10 must-see movies of 2018

The comedy western by Jacques Audiard turned out to be exemplary: an excellent cast (John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, Rutger Hauer), high-quality black humor, and an interesting plot.

This picture, which went almost unnoticed at the box office, is considered by most critics to be one of the main masterpieces of 2018, and such epithets are not given out of the blue. Separately, it is worth noting the acting of Sea Riley: here he gave one of his best roles in his career, although he did not receive awards or nominations for prestigious awards for this.

3. Incredibles 2

10 must-see movies of 2018

The first part of the animated film in 2004 grossed over $600 million and won two Oscars (including Best Animated Feature), becoming one of Pixar’s most successful projects. Even surprisingly, the sequel had to wait so long, but it was worth it.

The second part turned out even better than the original, which happens not so often. Even before its release in wide release, the work received laudatory reviews (or even enthusiastic ones), so its ultimate success did not surprise anyone. Even though this time it was not possible to take the Oscar, but it turned out to please the viewer and make good money: the fees amounted to 1.2 billion dollars.

2. Killer 2

10 must-see movies of 2018

Another sequel, this time – action movie with Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin in 2015. It cannot be said that it turned out to be a masterpiece, but fans of the genre should by no means miss it, since there are not as many good-quality action movies being shot now as we would like.

The main advantage of the film is a moderately adequate plot, devoid of outright blunders and without excessive pathos.

1. Isle of dogs

10 must-see movies of 2018

Let’s finish our selection with Wes Anderson’s puppet cartoon, which was undeservedly “rolled” with the Oscar. The award went to “Spider-Man”, which by no means pulls on the title of the best.

The work carried out in the creation of the “Isle of Dogs” is a colossal work, unlike the “spider” drawn on the computer, and the plot here is many times stronger.

The story takes place in Japan of the future, where due to the dog flu, all the dogs were placed on a quarantine island. The boy Atari, who is looking for his four-legged friend, also gets there. It is a mature story that will be understood by absolutely everyone.
