Have you started a renovation? Do you want to renovate the furnishings or change the interior? We go to the movies for great ideas.
The very case when the situation plays no less a role in the development of the plot than the characters themselves. It was not for nothing that the directors involved famous artists and decorators to create the sets. If you don’t want to spend a cosmic sum on interior design, the remote control is in your hands. The films that Woman’s Day has picked have ideas to take on board.
“Home Alone” is just a treasure trove for those who are already starting to puzzle over the New Year’s decoration of their home. Even if you are the owner of not a three-story Georgian mansion, but a modest kopeck piece in a panel house, you should take a couple of ideas into account. After all, decorators Yves Coley and Daniel B. Clancy worked on the interiors in the film. To create a festive mood in the “McCallister home”, they relied on a combination of bright red and juicy green and hit the bull’s-eye.
A red teapot on a dark green glossy tile countertop in the kitchen, a red bedspread on the bed in the parent’s bedroom, a malachite-like countertop in the bathroom. And also scarves, pillows, potholders, bottles, carpets, damask wallpaper. Of course, also red and green. Here and without a tree in the hall and a wreath on the front door, you involuntarily begin to hum “Jingle Bells”.

For those who prefer the classics, comedy is also worth revisiting. Here, the English style can be traced in everything: a spacious hall, a front staircase with a wall console, a living room with a large fireplace and a large armchair in front of it, light interior doors, carpets and carpet runners on the floor.
By the way, the shooting took place in a real-life house – it is located in the small fashionable village of Winnetka, 16 km from Chicago. Owners John and Cynthia Abendschein provided the crew with a kitchen, a main lobby and several rooms on the ground floor, while they themselves moved to live on the upper floors.
The main character of the picture, the auctioneer and collector Virgil Oldman, lives as a recluse. And therefore the dwelling is decorated to match it: black and white tones, clear lines, minimalism, modern furniture, natural materials in decoration. Neither crocheted napkins, nor curtains made of fabric “in a cheerful flower”, nor even a dining table in the kitchen – his hero is replaced by a snow-white bar with a glossy surface! In the living room in the corners there are sculptures of ancient heroes.

Luxurious, aristocratic, but somehow lifeless. Not at all “girly” interior, but it is worth taking a closer look. For example, these Italian Visionnaire lamps made of Venetian glass and crystal make your heart beat faster. And a rack for gloves neatly arranged on the shelves? That would be the same, but also for scarves, handbags, belts and other accessories.
Want to see luxury and glamor combined with exoticism? Then the film directed by Baz Luhrmann is what the doctor ordered. The painting won an Oscar for Best Decorations and for several years set the trend in decor for the 1920s era with its Art Deco style. By the way, the artist Catherine Martin, the wife of director Baz Luhrmann, worked on the design.

Explore the interiors of the Gatsby mansion (an abundance of gold and glitter in the ballroom, an ornate staircase, a two-story bedroom with a bed and a huge dressing room), the old mansion of Tom and Daisy Buchanan (hand-painted silk chinoiserie-style panels on the walls, curbstones with fanciful facades – such were the best houses in Europe, heavy crystal chandelier) is endless. And every time to find something new.
If the ballroom in the Gatsby mansion only resembles Versailles, then in Sofia Coppola’s costume drama you can see the real residence of the French kings. Luxury, luxury and luxury again. A lot of gold, a lot of crystal, a lot of monograms. How could it be otherwise when it comes to the endless celebration of life?

In addition to the Palace of Versailles, you can see the original interiors of the Paris Opera, the Vaux-le-Vicomte estate, the Chantilly residence and the Soubise hotel, as well as the Belvedere palace complex in Vienna. It is, of course, impossible to repeat this at home. But who prevents you from imagining yourself as a princess, at least in dreams?
“Love by the rules and without”
Well, who would refuse to live in a house like that of the heroine Diane Keaton – the writer Erica Barry. Very cozy, it just exudes calmness and tranquility. It is impossible to believe that this stunning interior never existed in reality and was created in the Sony studio by production designer John Hutman and set designer Beth Rubino.
The kitchen alone is worth something! It turned out that the white color for the room where food is prepared is not so scary. Snow-white facades of kitchen cabinets, white walls and even white “brick-like” tiles on the kitchen backsplash. In contrast, there are black granite countertops (in fact, the countertops are a dummy made of plywood and painted like a stone), dark handles on the drawers, a dark floor. I don’t even want to talk about the technical equipment: two sinks (two!), A huge stove, a huge hood, a dishwasher, a garbage compactor. After the release of Beth Rubino’s picture, potential clients who wanted a kitchen “like Erica’s” literally cut off the phone.

The interior in other rooms is also noteworthy. A striped blue and white cotton rug in the living room, an oddly shaped Swedish Moore clock, a card table, and a couple of rattan chairs. The idea with tall shelves on which there are decorative plates, Rubino spied on one of her friends. But did that make the idea less attractive?
The house for the film was found in Canada, on the outskirts of Toronto. Built on the basis of a 1950 bungalow, it looks stylish and modern. A lot of glass, a lot of concrete, a lot of solid wood and air. It feels like the street space has become part of the interior. However, the architect Drew Mandel builds only such “glass houses”.

Dark muted tones in the decoration, a huge billiard table with a floor lamp instead of the usual suspensions as lighting. And even a huge office sofa made of black leather. At some point, the heroes of the film find themselves at Mike Tyson’s home. And this chic two-story mansion in Las Vegas at that time really belonged to an eccentric boxer with a half-face tattoo! Six bathrooms, five bedrooms, cinema, three fireplaces, wine cellar, pool with jacuzzi and waterfall. Is that the cage for the tiger, like the tiger itself, Tyson still did not have.

Designer Tom Ford didn’t waste time on trifles during the filming. The huge mansion, in which the main character of the picture while away sleepless nights, he rented from no one else – from the multimillionaire Kurt Rappaport. Baccarat crystal, Asprey pepperpots, Diptyque candles, Cartier clock on the bedside table. All these luxurious details of the decor only set off the minimalism in the design of the interiors themselves. Some of them are truly museum value! For example, the photograph that hangs in the living room was taken by artist Richard Mizrach. And in the courtyard of the house next to the pool there is a legendary life-size sculpture by Jeff Koons, Balloon Dog.

The unusual Tenenbaum family lives in a huge, almost fabulous mansion. And the interior here, of course, pluck your eyes out. The design is dominated by red in all its forms: from purple to fuchsia and burgundy. But there is something in such an eclectic interior. For example, fiery red wallpaper with gold zebras or African masks on the walls. You can safely take note of the lighting in the form of floor lamps, sconces and table lamps and, of course, the classic tapestry hanging of paintings.

The story of the chief designer of the XNUMXth century, starring Audrey Tautou, unfolds against the backdrop of stylish interiors. The country mansion of Monsieur Balsan at the beginning of the XNUMXth century, where the main action of the picture takes place, is decorated in the Rococo style characteristic of France in the XNUMXth century. Glass staircase, painting on the ceiling, wallpaper with large floral patterns, huge painted vases, golden candlesticks, mantel clock, furniture on thin legs.
Everything here emphasizes the spirit of French charm and luxury. Not a house, but a real palace! Of course, such interiors will look out of place in a Khrushchev building. But there are more than enough ideas for a country house in the picture.
