8. 9 mouth (2005)
Film “9 company” is based on real events, when in 1988 the task of the 345th separate guards airborne regiment was to block the city of Khost.
The legendary 9th company took part in the battle for Hill 3234, which is what Fyodor Bondarchuk’s film is dedicated to.
In the center of events are seven conscripts and a cruel foreman who went through all the difficulties of training. Now the task comes to them – to take the height and hold it until the entire column passes.
During the filming, two helicopters were involved, many pieces of military equipment and tents were repainted in protective colors, and then back: the shooting took place in Simferopol, which in 2005 remained the territory of Ukraine. The episode with the explosion of the Afghan village remains the most difficult.
7. Checkpoint (1998)

During the cleansing of the territory in the North Caucasus, a local boy died. In order to protect the platoon from the wrath of the inhabitants, the authorities sent the guys away, in the vicinity of a relatively quiet settlement.
Soldiers live, eat, sleep. They wait until there is a war going on somewhere, until they are remembered and ordered to return. They start easy relationships with local girls and pay them patrons. And one of these rounds could end up in the rifle of a sniper who tirelessly watches the checkpoint.
6. Breakthrough (2005)
Vitaly Lukin’s film takes place in Chechnya in the early 2000s. Numerous antiterrorist operations are carried out on its territory.
Russian fighters are combing square after square, trying to find enemy units. In the Argun Gorge, one of the groups discovers opponents and enters the battle. But this is only the beginning.
A huge group, which numbers a couple of thousand people, is moving just in time for the gorge, a weak spot, hoping to break through here into the territory of Dagestan. Along the way, they expect to capture as many hostages and weapons as possible.
Scenario “breakthrough” is based on real events: the feat of the 9th company of the Pskov paratroopers. The director fully managed to reflect the importance of the feat of young guys who were able to turn the tide of the battle.
5. Search (2014)
Film “Search” is a joint work of France and Georgia, and worthy of attention, if only because it is a rather rare phenomenon – a foreign film about the Chechen war.
The director tries to convey the atmosphere of hostilities, in which there are no right and wrong, in which each side is the victim.
In the center of the plot is a Chechen boy who lost all his relatives during the Chechen campaign. A girl who works for a non-governmental organization is filled with sympathy and tries to arrange his fate, despite all the difficulties.
4. Olympius Inferno (2009)
August 8, 2008, the date when Georgian troops attacked South Ossetia. “Olympius Inferno” is the first film dedicated to this conflict.
Not only soldiers, but also completely peaceful people suffered from hostilities. For example, entomologist Michael, who flew in from America, and his Russian girlfriend Evgenia.
They had a harmless idea: to make a film about a rare species of butterflies. But instead, they captured the entry of Georgian troops into the territory of South Ossetia.
Realizing that important information was in their hands, Michael and Zhenya are trying to break into the destroyed Tskhinval.

Meanwhile, life goes on as usual. People fall in love, quarrel, make up and survive.
Dmitry Meskhiev tells the story of three prisoners of war who escaped from the Germans. They hide in the same farm. One of them falls in love with a local girl, but unfortunately the policeman also has feelings for her. Men enter into an invisible and unequal fight.
Having received a painful refusal, the policeman is not going to give up and is ready to do anything to destroy the enemy and get the girl, by her will or against. His rival served at the front as a sniper, which does not simplify the task in any way.
2. The Caucasian Prisoner (1996)
Based on his filmPrisoner of the Caucasus” Bodrov took the classic story of Leo Tolstoy, moving the events from the 19th century to the time of the First Chechen War. Many peoples were drawn into the conflict, and not everyone wanted to fight.
Two Russian soldiers, Alexander and Ivan, are captured by Abdul-Murat. He saved the men, who were in a deplorable state, and rendered all possible assistance to them.
Abdul-Murat lives in a mountain village, and his family has its own grief: his son is a prisoner of the Russians. He plans to organize an exchange. Feelings intervene in history: the daughter of Abdul-Murat realized that she was sympathetic to the Russian guy.
1. Captive (2008)
The film by Alexei Uchitel is dedicated to the war in Chechnya in general and the fate of individuals in particular. The director allows you to deeply feel the history of the characters, feel their feelings, the depth of suffering.
In the center of the plot are two Russian servicemen. The column got stuck in a gorge and they were sent to find a guide.
The lieutenant colonel of the nearest unit that the soldiers reached refused to help, and they had to look for the prisoner themselves. It turned out to be a young Chechen sniper.
Two are escorts, one is captive. They are on opposite sides of the barricades, they have nothing in common. But suddenly it turns out that the bullets kill equally from all sides, and the enemies have a lot more common experiences than they would like.
This is a story about deep human experiences, measured, unhurried, deep, in the spirit of author’s cinema.
