American feature filmMalifferent“is a remake of the cartoon”Sleeping Beauty“. It differs significantly from the original, it is called “free retelling”.
The main character here is the villainess Maleficent. This young fairy lived in the swamps, she was a kind girl and did not wish harm to anyone.
Maleficent met the boy Stefan, they began to be friends. When the fairy grew up, the king’s troops attacked the swamps, he wanted to capture these lands. Maleficent and many other creatures decided to protect their home.
The fairy inflicted a serious wound on the king. Before his death, he announced his will: anyone who can avenge his death and kill Maleficent will be able to marry his daughter and get the throne.
Stefan finds out about this, he comes to the fairy and warns her about the danger, but his intentions are not as pure as it might seem at first glance. He could not kill his girlfriend, but cut off her wings and took them to the palace, thus deciding to deceive the king. Maleficent wants revenge…
This beautiful story has been repeatedly accused of feminism. It is unlikely that children will ever be puzzled by such a question, and adults, apparently, have simply forgotten how to believe in fairy tales.
