Unfortunately, every day many of our compatriots become victims of their own legal illiteracy. And oddly enough, not only scammers can use this for an unseemly purpose, but also people called by law to help us in difficult situations. In this case, we are talking about health workers. Over the past ten years, domestic medicine has undergone a wide variety of reforms, thanks to which now, the main document regulating the relationship between a doctor and a patient is the CHI policy. Not many are aware that this document gives you the right to receive a certain list of medical services free of charge, for the provision of which medical institutions are not entitled to demand money. However, in reality, there are a lot of complaints from disgruntled patients about extortion in hospitals.
From this material, you can find out for which 10 types of medical services you are not entitled to demand payment.
10 Provision of medicines in the hospital
This applies to both the round-the-clock stay of the patient in the hospital and the day hospital. By law, the medical institution must provide free medicines prescribed to the patient by the attending physician. Violation of this rule is illegal.
9. Dental Services
The basic list of free dental services provided by the compulsory health insurance program includes: obtaining anesthesia (with the exception of orthopedic work), caries treatment, removal of tartar, oral hygiene training.
Of course, the doctor has the right to offer you a paid service, but he has no legal basis to demand payment for pain relief, threatening that otherwise he will perform the removal without anesthesia.
A more complete list of services that you can receive free of charge can be found on the website of the Territorial Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund.
8. In Vitro Fertilization
In 2013, this (until that time quite expensive manipulation) was included in the CHI program. However, participation in it on a budgetary basis provides for compliance with certain requirements.
The candidacy of a woman who is shown IVF will be considered by a special commission. They will allow her to conduct a free procedure only after a detailed study of the data of laboratory and instrumental studies, which are also carried out under the CHI policy.
Also, keep in mind that under the policy you will not be able to “replant” donor embryos. In addition, CHI does not provide for surrogate motherhood.
7. MRI, CT and ultrasound
You have the right to undergo such examinations for free only if you have the appropriate doctor’s prescription, that is, if he decides that the results of a particular instrumental study will play a decisive role in making a diagnosis and drawing up a plan for further therapy. However, if you decide on your own initiative to examine a part of your body or an organ that does not bother you at all, then you will have to pay for such a procedure out of your own pocket.
6. Thyroid hormone tests
If you have ever had to donate blood to study the concentration of thyroid hormones in your life, then it is likely that the doctor could tell you that “basic” tests can be taken at the clinic, and for more complex studies in this institution there is no suitable equipment. Be that as it may, in fact, under the compulsory medical insurance policy, you have the right to undergo the following laboratory tests for free to determine the content of all thyroid hormones. A complete list of free tests can be found on the official website of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. When a non-toxic goiter is established, studies that are important for the correct diagnosis are added to it.
5. Specialist consultation
standard situation. At the reception, they explain to you that the narrow specialist is very busy, and that an appointment is being made with him for several months in advance, while for a fee he is ready to accept you right now. Of course, a logical question arises: if the doctor is so catastrophically loaded, then how in his busy schedule will he find time for an extraordinary paid patient?
By law, you have the right to receive a consultation from a therapist no later than 24 hours from the moment of contact, a narrow specialist and instrumental and laboratory examinations – no later than two weeks.
4. Massage
If massage is an indispensable element of the therapy prescribed by the doctor, then the medical institution should provide you with such services completely free of charge. In the event that you arbitrarily decide to “improve your health” with a massage, then you will have to pay for it.
3. Help with obesity
In our society, it is customary for obese people to be advised to buy a membership to a fitness club or make an appointment with a nutritionist, which involves a certain fee. However, it should be borne in mind that obesity is a disease, the treatment of which is included in the list of free compulsory medical insurance services.
The attending physician is obliged to find out the main reason for the development of obesity (excessive food intake, hormone therapy, limitation of mobility, etc.). Also, with such a diagnosis, you need to be examined by a number of narrow specialists, such as a gynecologist, cardiologist, endocrinologist, psychiatrist, and so on.
It is the doctor’s responsibility to calculate the daily calorie content of meals acceptable in each individual case.
2. Depression
Unfortunately, in our country, by the majority of the population, such a diagnosis is not considered a serious illness requiring professional medical intervention. However, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation adopted a law allowing every person suffering from depression to undergo a free examination by a psychotherapist, get advice and necessary therapy from him.
1. Immunizations
Every citizen of the Russian Federation has the right to routinely receive a vaccine free of charge, a complete list of which can be found on the official website of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
