It is necessary to take care of your teeth regularly and correctly, otherwise all efforts may be meaningless. Many people know about the basic rules of dental care, but forget about some important nuances. As a result, they have to spend a lot of money on dental consultations and medical procedures. To avoid this, you need to consider the following recommendations for oral care.
10 Avoid sugary juices
When you use sweet foods, drinks (including fruit juices), acidity begins to change in your mouth, which leads to problems with your gums and teeth. Juices from oranges, grapefruits, apples and pineapples are especially dangerous in this regard. Under the influence of such drinks, tooth enamel becomes less durable and more rough. Many small pieces of food remain on uneven surfaces. Bacteria on the teeth begin to multiply actively, and caries quickly occurs. To avoid this problem, it is necessary to thoroughly rinse the mouth after each use of sweet juice.
9. Try to brush your teeth more often
Doctors advise brushing your teeth in the morning and in the evening. This is necessary in order to regularly remove food particles, due to which harmful bacteria can actively multiply. Some experts recommend brushing your teeth after every meal. However, you should not do this too often, otherwise you can provoke irritation of the mucous tissues, damage to tooth enamel. After eating during the day, it will be enough to use dental floss or mouthwash.
8. Stop smoking
When a person inhales cigarette smoke, nicotine enters their mouth, as well as tar and other harmful components. They disrupt blood circulation, which contributes to a significant deterioration in the condition of the gums. Due to the high temperature in the oral cavity, there are fewer beneficial microorganisms, inflammation of the mucous tissues and damage to the tooth enamel occur. Cigarette drinkers can develop chronic periodontal disease. To avoid such problems, it is better to give up smoking forever. After that, the condition of the teeth will improve significantly: after a few months, you will notice that the enamel has brightened significantly.
7. Cleanse your tongue
People brush their teeth every day, but few people devote enough time and attention to the tongue, and in fact a lot of bacteria accumulate on it. The tongue needs to be cleaned as often as the tooth enamel, but for this it is better to use an electric toothbrush with a special nozzle. At first, the sensations are not very pleasant, but you can get used to such cleaning pretty quickly.
6. Use dental floss
Dental floss allows you to fully clean the gaps between the teeth: this cannot be achieved with a conventional brush. The cost of such devices is usually quite acceptable. They can be used in any conditions and places, and usually there are no difficulties with this. However, dental floss must be used with the utmost care, otherwise the gums may be damaged. It is not recommended to use such a device more than once a day, but if necessary, you can do this more often.
5. Spend at least 5 minutes brushing your teeth
There are different opinions on this issue. In Soviet times, for example, it was argued that there should be at least 150 movements with a toothbrush. Modern experts believe that it is not necessary to devote a lot of time to brushing your teeth: 10 movements on each side are enough. However, it all depends on the specific case: on the characteristics of a person’s teeth, on the type of brush, toothpaste, and so on. In any case, it is recommended to spend at least two minutes cleaning.
4. Pay attention to bristle stiffness
In order for the enamel to be cleaned as efficiently as possible, it is necessary to choose the most suitable brush in a particular case. If you want to make fewer movements, but at the same time clean your teeth well, it is better to opt for a device with medium-hard bristles that differ from each other in length. These brushes are much easier to use, they are good at removing food particles stuck between the teeth (however, we are talking about rather large pieces, you still have to use dental floss to remove small ones). If the bristles are too soft, cleaning will not be effective, if the bristles are too hard, the gums will be damaged.
3. Store your dental supplies properly
Some people are well aware of how to properly use toothbrushes, but have no idea how to store them. However, this is very important. You need to store brushes in special glasses with several holes, so that each family member has the opportunity to put their device separately from others. Rinse your toothbrush thoroughly after each brushing so that there is no paste on it.
2. Change your brush regularly
It is recommended to purchase a new toothbrush every 3 months, at least. This applies to devices for both adults and children. Brush heads on electric toothbrushes should be changed just as often. If you do this less often, a lot of bacteria will accumulate on the device, which can cause infection.
It should also be borne in mind that the bristles of a device that is used for a long time gradually cease to be elastic. As a result, various damages occur on the gums. You will definitely need to purchase a new toothbrush after suffering a cold.
1. Visit your dentist regularly
You should go to the dentist regularly even if you are not at all worried about the condition of your teeth and gums. The specialist will be able to determine the presence of tartar, caries in the early stages. If left untreated, problems can become more serious over time and require immediate medical attention. This also applies to the condition of the gums. If nothing hurts you, it does not mean at all that there are no diseases.
