1. Tourism in the neighborhood
No matter where you live, as you walk through your city, you can get your little one interested in everything around them. The shape of the church, an original house facade, a street-art drawing on a wall, a fountain, a cobbled lane, a sculpture on a roundabout, the flags on the town hall, the work of a bridge, the arrival of a train at the station …
2. Explore nature behind the window
Whether you are in the city or in the countryside, nature observation is an inexhaustible source of learning for a child. Depending on your age, have fun noting or drawing the surrounding landscapes: balcony, garden, square, fields, forest, river … List together the flowers and trees in your region, the birds that pass in “your sky”, the insects of each season, the domestic animals that live in your street… This can also involve installing a nesting box, making a “house” for insects or a small vegetable garden…
3. World cuisine without flying
The idea is to introduce new foods to children by choosing them together (at the market for example) and by testing fun recipes to cook them. In these moments, do not forget to smell the flavors of the food, to let the child touch the textures, cut, mix, taste.
4. The Music Festival in the living room
Instead of always listening to the same “trendy” nursery rhymes and songs, introduce your children to sounds they are not used to hearing! Fanfare, jazz, salsa, classical music, rock, and whatever comes to mind! You can offer costumes or accessories in the theme to listen to these songs. Or motivate children to dance as they see fit. And don’t forget to build a small play-list which will serve as their “knowledge base”!
5. Destination imaginary country!
The idea is to stimulate the imagination of children and therefore do without “support”. So we settle in “storyteller” mode, on rugs and cushions, with soft light and musical atmosphere before starting. And we read a long story (or we invent it for those who succeed). Shared pleasure guaranteed.
6. Science and technology, seemingly nothing …
In the bath, we talk about temperature and flotation. By closing the shutters, we observe the moon and the stars. By opening them, we get the weather forecast. In the kitchen, we explain fire, steam, ice. In the car, how the engine works and the rules of the road. On the way to the nursery or school, we observe the garbage trucks, the work, the ambulance. In the supermarket, we explain again where the milk, egg, flour comes from … In the post office, at the doctor or the hairdresser, we look at the posters, the material, we do not lose any opportunity to increase knowledge and ‘arouse curiosity.
7. Communicate with others from a distance
Seeing fewer people also means losing the habit of sharing your joys and discoveries. To compensate for this lack, you can encourage children to tell their loved ones everything they learn through drawings, paintings, crafts, letters (if they can write) to send. Photos and calls are also important, but do not mobilize the same energy to transmit knowledge.
8. Find out what we are capable of
It is about offering children to create freely. We take advantage of a moment of boredom, a rainy day, to say “hey, what could you invent? », By allowing the child to access what he wants such as materials, cardboard, paper, glue, scissors, paperclips, fabric… This gives rise to crazy crafts, but which allow children to experiment with different materials , to gain confidence in their creative capacities.
9. Observe an animal up close
Depending on the possibilities in its home and the budget of each (data to be taken into account before deciding), the acquisition of a pet allows children to learn a lot about living beings and to take responsibility. taking care of their little beast.
10. Learn to take care of yourself
This ranges from “feeling the hot and cold” when you come back from a walk, to making faces to relax your face, through doing your own hair, choosing an outfit you like, settling down comfortably. to read, prepare a good snack, put away your favorite toys, relax each part of your body with small yoga movements, visualize happy images to calm yourself down… In short, it is about taking advantage of this period of “solitude” To learn how to feel good in your sneakers. And to be able to meet others serenely as soon as possible.
