The cult franchise about the boy who survived has glorified many actors, opening many doors for them in Hollywood and beyond.
“Game of Thrones”, initially doomed to success, was an extremely attractive series that many dreamed of getting into, including the actors of “Harry Potter”.
We have collected 10 people who appeared in both projects, some of which you are unlikely to recognize, even if you have seen all the episodes of the film adaptation of George Martin’s books.
10 Freddy Stroma
For the English actor Freddie Strom, the role of Cormac McLaggen in Harry Potter was the second in his career, so he can be called lucky: without experience, immediately get into such a franchise (albeit with a minor role).
In case you don’t remember, McLaggen is Ron’s rival for the Gryffindor selection as goaltender, who gets stunned by Hermione’s spell to make Ron win.
He also received little screen time on Game of Thrones, playing Deacon Tarly, Samwell’s younger brother.
9. Bronson Webb
Another Englishman who appeared in both projects with a small role.
In Harry Potter, he played one of Malfoy’s comrades (remember the moment in which Harry in the invisibility cloak throws snowballs at them), and his character did not even get a name and stayed on the screen for several seconds.
In the series, his role is more prominent: he plays Will from the Night’s Watch, who escaped from the White Walkers in the first series.
It was he who was executed by Eddard Stark, having an instructive conversation with the young Jon Snow that the one who pronounced the sentence should cut off his head.
8. Nicholas Blaine
You are unlikely to remember this plump man, but you definitely saw him.
In Harry Potter, he played Arthur Weasley’s colleague when a scarred boy was being taken to a hearing for warding off a Dementor by using magic on a Muggle. Nicholas Blaine rode with the heroes in the elevator, but, because of the large box in his hands and the bushy beard, it is really difficult to recognize him.
In the Game of Thrones, he is already clean-shaven and appears as the Spice King, one of the members of the council of the city of Qarth, who will be freed from slavery by the Stormborn.
7. Ralph Ineson
Even devoted fans of J.K. Rowling’s books are unlikely to immediately be able to remember the name Amicus Carrow. Even if they think, tense up, it’s still unlikely. Both in books and in movies, he is an insignificant character: in The Deathly Hallows, he can be seen to the left of Severus Snape in the great hall of Hogwarts when he interrogates students.
In the Game of Thrones, he starred as Dogmer Shcherbaty – one of the fighters of Theon Greyjoy’s detachment during his capture of Winterfell. Although it is not directly stated, the idea of hanging two shepherds under the guise of Starks came to his mind. Later, he easily betrays Theon, and he himself dies off-screen at the hands of Bolton soldiers.
6. Ian White
Ian White is a memorable person, because his height is 2 meters 16 centimeters. Seeing this once, you will not forget him again, but makeup works wonders.
So, you are unlikely to recognize him in the image of Madame Maxime, the director of the Charmbaton school of magic, with whom Hagrid awkwardly flirted.
He was invited to the series more than once, but the roles again came across such where the face of the actor himself could not be seen: he was one of the White Walkers, as well as the giant Wun Wun, who fought on the side of the wildlings.
5. Sally Mortemore
The character played by this actress in “Harry Potter” can only be remembered by the most attentive viewers, since the role of the head of the library Irma Pince in the “Chamber of Secrets” was very small.
In Game of Thrones, her role is even less prominent: she appeared as a resident of Braavos in season 6, and her character does not even have a name.
However, Sally Mortemore has never been a screen star, focusing on theatrical productions, where she is better known, and in the cinema she has only 8 roles, although the actress is almost 60 years old.
4. Ciarán Hinds
In the Harry Potter movie universe, this Irish actor made his debut in the first part of the Deathly Hallows, playing the role of Albus Dumbledore’s younger brother named Aberforth. Skeptical about the plans of young friends to destroy the Horcruxes, he nevertheless comes to their rescue and stands shoulder to shoulder with the other defenders of Hogwarts in the final battle.
At that time, Hinds already had roles in Jane Eyre, the second part of Lara Croft, as well as in the HBO series Rome.
In another project of this channel, Kiaran appeared in the form of Mance Raider, the leader of the wildlings, who was respectfully called the King-behind-the-wall.
Despite the fact that he appears everywhere without makeup, it is difficult to recognize him in the series after Harry Potter, since here he no longer wears a large beard, which greatly changed his appearance as Aberforth.
3. Michelle Fairley
In the first Deathly Hallows, Fairley appeared for only a few seconds: she played Hermione’s mother, whom she erased the memory of, going with Harry and Ron in search of Horcruxes.
In the “Game of Thrones” her role was not just bigger, she was one of the key ones: she was entrusted to embody the image of Catelyn Stark, whom all viewers watched with pleasure in the first seasons.
It is noteworthy that another actress, Jennifer Ehle, was originally announced for this role, but shortly before the start of filming, Michelle took her place.
2. Natalia Tena
Nymphadora Tonks – a brave Auror, a member of the Order of the Phoenix and the wife of Remus Lupin, has become, although not the main, but still a bright star of the franchise. In the film adaptation, her character was given less time than she had in the books, so full disclosure was out of the question, but she was still well remembered.
In the Game of Thrones, she can also be seen rarely, but aptly: first she saves Bran, Rickon, Hodor and the direwolf from the ironborn who captured Winterfell, and later she dies while trying to kill the main antagonist of those seasons, Ramsay Bolton.
1. David Bradley
Let’s finish our selection with an actor who played not the most pleasant characters in both projects: first he was the nasty and spiteful Argus Filch, who regretted the abolition of spanking for delinquent children, and then Walder Frey, responsible for the events of the bloody Red Wedding. Many sincerely rejoiced when he was finally killed by Arya Stark, who went through the school of the faceless.
