People are very fond of listening to stories or watching films about children whose abilities dramatically exceed their age level. Geeks often live very difficult lives, since the presence of some unique talent does not at all guarantee that the life of its owner will be successful. And this is a great field for dramaturgy!
That is why filmmakers quite often turn to the topic of child prodigies. The heroes of each of these paintings live completely different lives – real and fictional. However, they are all similar in two things: firstly, they are driven by an ardent desire to achieve their goal, and secondly, they are not yet 18 years old.
10 Good Will Hunting | 1997
Will Hunting is a child prodigy who constantly gets into trouble. And when the police once again detain the guy, the professor of mathematics decides to vouch for him, but on the condition that Will agrees to visit a psychoanalyst.
At first, the conversations of a brilliant young man with a mentor are very difficult, but gradually the wall of alienation between them breaks down and their relationship develops into a strong friendship.
9. Game selection | 1993
This is a story about the professional path of the legendary chess player Joshua Waitzkin, based on his biographical facts. The plot was based on the book “In Search of Bobby Fischer”, created by the grandmaster’s father.
Joshua grew up as an ordinary boy. However, everything changed dramatically after the boy learned what chess was. The father and mother of a gifted child gradually come to the conclusion that their child has a grandiose talent, so they begin to develop his outstanding abilities in every possible way.
It seemed to everyone close then that little Joshua would definitely become the second Bobby Fischer, but the brilliant child chose his own path.

Frank Adler is self-employed in the upbringing of his extraordinarily gifted niece Mary. At one point, Frank’s plans for their further measured existence fail, because his mother, a domineering and cruel woman, becomes aware of the phenomenal mathematical abilities of the girl.
She has her own plans for a brilliant child, and in order to implement them, a heartless woman is even ready to separate her son from her granddaughter.
7. Billy Eliot | 2000
The plot of the picture takes place in 1984, just when there were mass strikes of British miners. The central character of the film is 11-year-old Billy Elliot.
He loves dance very much and in his heart dreams of becoming a professional ballet dancer someday. Billy’s father and brother are miners who take an active part in the strike.
One day, the father decides to give Billy to the boxing section. However, the child does not aspire to the ring at all. Instead, his attention is drawn to the ballet circle …

The main character of the film is a gifted girl Matilda. Her mother is a housewife, always busy with stupid TV shows, lotteries and other nonsense. She does not take care of her daughter at all and practically does not pay attention to her.
Matilda’s father is a dealer in old cars, and this business takes all his energy and thoughts. Abandoned by her parents, Matilda decides to take care of her self-improvement herself.
