10 fraudulent practices in bars

We are in a country of bars and restaurants and our leisure activity is usually represented near or within one of the thousands of hotel establishments that exist in Spain.

The long-awaited customer experience is currently in fashion, and in this case we can assure that it is clearly achieved, especially in the negative or surprising level, rather than in that of enthusiasm and / or enjoyment.

The food, the dishes, the service, the place, there are so many influencing factors that they must be cared for perfectly, but sometimes not with such suspicion, since we pass that thin red line from concealment to disappointment.

Let’s not forget that one of the success factors of any business business is perseverance, dedication and transparency and if the latter fails, the first two are not usually enough for its perfect development successfully.

How many of us have been surprised by the famous “account” at the perfect moment of that lunch or dinner? Surely the enthusiasm and joy was immediately transformed into a huge anger….

The consumer protection organization Facua has recently presented an elaborate list of what many would call scams, but that really are that part of the dark side, that we do not know if, intentionally or not, the owners of the hospitality establishments we They offer daily at their locations.

How far will the noise of these actions have reached, which from the organization itself has created a hashtag, #BaresParaNoVolver, as a collaboration speaker between consumers to not tolerate this type of abuse and thus label their comments or disagreements within social media .

Below we highlight a dozen of them that we believe are more common, of which we believe should come out of the habit of bars and restaurants to help professionalize the sector.

  1. Waiting times From the moment they take our drink order until the waiter asks again about the choice of food is a clear example of a sibylline strategy, sometimes so much time passes that not only do you not have a drop of your soda left, but You would have had time to read all the results of the football day “of the brand” or “the sport” in their honor and regional divisions …
  2. Failure to report drink prices. Some establishments omit the prices of liquid drinks in the letters, a clear sign that they want to hide something, generally the result is a surprising upward trend in the value of the drink as if it were a widely demanded stock market offer. This generates mistrust.
  3. The bread at the price of gold. The establishments can charge the bread separately, it is legal, but only if it appears in the price list of the bar or restaurant, if this does not appear, they cannot charge it.
  4. The overrated appetizer. Not in the whole country it is given away, and the bad habit of asking sometimes causes us embarrassing situations of having to pay or return the bowl of olives or the plate of potatoes because their value is almost on a par with that of the “roe of the sturgeon”. It is legal if it is reflected in the price list …
  5. The added value of 10%. Since we are full-fledged Europeans, VAT only gives headaches and sometimes unwanted surprises. In the case of the menus, it must always be highlighted whether the prices of the dishes or drinks include the famous tax or not. In addition, it is easy to calculate and we all like to tip…;)
  6. The intriguing world of restaurant menu acronyms. “SM” or “PSM” neither social media nor their majesties that should be duplicated, are the classic acronyms of “price according to market” that do nothing more than discover an illegality that is really common, no matter that the price fluctuates , the obligatory thing is to inform it, for that the uncomfortable paper taken with a clip is usually put on the cover of the letter with a perfect calligraphy of the dish or highlighted product, yes, with its price …
  7. Table or bar, height issue. Why does beer cost more at the table than at the bar? The mileage is not really applied to the beer or to the plate, it is a common practice of certain places that, being legal, must always be perfectly reflected within the letter or list of strengths from the hospitality establishment. What we must not allow is that it is communicated orally, all well reflected.
  8. The exciting world of supplements. Although it seems taken from the script of a Berlanga movie, in some establishments they charge you for ice, or if you want the meat well cooked. This is totally illegal and is an unacceptable abuse. Have you ever been offered a discount for ordering the water of time or for ordering almost raw meat? What would become of the Japanese restaurants …?
  9. The POS that never works. What bad luck! The world seeks to advance with the means of payment and where you have lunch the dataphone always fails. This can happen, but the person in charge of the establishment must inform about it when we arrive at the premises, not when paying, or indicated next to the poster or sticker in which they announce that cards are accepted. What is unknown in this case is that we are entitled to request the restaurant account (providing our DNI number as a guarantee) and make a cash deposit or transfer to the establishment’s account, exempting us from the obligation to withdraw money from an ATM. in which they are going to charge us commission.
  10. Pain pills. If after all this our head hurts, either due to pathology or discontent and you ask for an analgesic pill, you just need to be charged. This act is illegal due to the fact of collecting it, but the worst thing is the failure to give it to you, since only pharmacies and health centers can supply medicines, and at the moment the bars dispatch almost everything but not yet aspirin
