10 Food Tech finalistas del South Summit

The South Summit organization has just announced the 100 finalist startups that will participate in the international event of the entrepreneurial ecosystem next October.

In the la Startup Competition Ten of the projects have been highlighted, belonging to the food industry, and their content ranges from artificial intelligence initiatives and crop improvement, to devices for cooking or accessing the price of fruits and vegetables in real time.

Six of them are international; United Kingdom, Jersey, Israel, France or Portugal and, the rest, four are ideas born in our national innovation, four of the initiatives are in the seed phase, four are in the early stage and two have already reached the growth phase.

The rest of the finalist projects correspond to innovative and disruptive initiatives of the main industries: Fintech, Education, Fashion & Lifestyle, Industry & NRG, Travel, Health & Wellness, Food, and Media & Entertainment, as well as some corresponding to B2B and B2C.

For the selection of the 100 finalists, innovation, viability and scalability of the technology have been taken into account as main criteria, after an intense selection process carried out by the Governing Council of Spain Startup and investors and corporations in search for innovation.

The ten Finalist Startups in the Food industry

The food industry will be one of the protagonists of this edition, a vertical organized in collaboration with Reimagine Food, in which initiatives in food will be sought and analyzed, from the necessary changes in agricultural production or what the kitchen of the future will be like.

Those selected will have the opportunity to have their own space during South Summit 2016, where they can make their projects known to investors and national and international corporations and generate visibility apart from new business possibilities.

New disruptive technologies will focus the program of this new edition of South Summit, “The Disruptor´s Playground”, in which the impact of innovations in the main industries will be analyzed.

These objectives focus on the themes of the finalist startups in the food industry, which are the following:

  • AgriLedger: From Jersey (in seed phase), it is a blockchain for small farmers that promotes the efficiency of crops in developing countries.
  • Livin Farms: Of British origin (in early stage), this initiative is responsible for the home production of insects.
  • Fruitbull: Madrid startup (in growth phase), which allows access in real time to the price of fruits and vegetables.
  • Ec2ce: Sevillian project (in early stage), which applies artificial intelligence and Big Data in agriculture to combat pests and predict crops.
  • Steak Tzar Tzar: Of Israeli origin (in the seed phase), it is an initiative to create alternative proteins from edible grasshoppers.
  • WeFarm: Coming from the UK (early stage), this initiative connects farmers, even in remote areas without internet access, to share information and answer questions among farmers around the world, in a matter of minutes.
  • Phenix: From France (in growth phase), this initiative focuses on reducing waste.
  • Easyponic: Madrid project (in seed phase), for the protection and improvement of hydroponic cultivation to improve and protect crops.
  • Wise Connect: Portuguese (in early stage), it is a platform that collects all the data necessary for making reasoned and intelligent decisions in agriculture.
  • Eskesso: Of Sevillian origin (in the seed phase), it is a device for cooking like a professional from your smartphone, saving time and maintaining a balanced diet.

The final appointment will be in the capital of Spain, during the next 5 to 7 October in the municipal space of LA N @ VE.
