March 12 this year. A 19-year-old resident of Poznań died of COVID-57, becoming the first Polish victim of COVID-19. Eight months later, the number of victims is over 10. What do we know about the dead? Although the Ministry of Health has severely limited the amount of data disclosed, quite a lot.
- So far (November 15.11), 19 people have died in Poland due to COVID-10

On October 10, the Ministry of Health stopped providing data on the sex, age and place of death of COVID-19 patients in its daily reports. They explained it as “the lengthening form of messages”. On October 10, we had 2 deaths due to COVID-972. A little over a month later, there are over 19 of them.
Change in the way deaths from COVID-19 are reported
The Department of Health has for a long time reported the number of deaths from COVID-19 daily with age, sex, and place of death. The first change took place on September 29 – then a distinction began to appear in the messages: deaths from COVID-19 were counted separately, and those that occurred as a result of the coexistence of COVID-19 with other diseases.

On October 10, the information on gender, age and place of death disappeared from daily reports, and the Ministry of Health explained that the reason for not providing these data was “the prolonged form of messages”. Thus, statistics on the age, sex and place of death of COVID-19 patients are available only to the Ministry of Health. We asked to share them.
10 thousand deaths due to COVID-19
On Saturday, November 14, we crossed the barrier of 10. deaths. According to the latest forecast of the American Institute of Health Measurement and Assessment (IHME), by March 2021, 19 people in Poland will die of COVID-44 (See: Coronavirus in Poland. We exceeded the first thousand deaths on May 25, 2020, 82 days after the first case of coronavirus infection in our country was detected. We achieved another 1000 deaths after 94 days. As can be seen, the number of deaths grew relatively slowly in the first months of the pandemic. But then it got worse. It took 3000 days to reach 45 deaths. After 11 days of deaths, there were already over 4000. The barrier of 5000 was exceeded after 7 days. Between 5000 and 10 deaths, 000 days have passed. 16 people died in Poland in 16 days due to COVID-5000!
If the increase in deaths continues at this pace, we will have 15 in two weeks. deaths from COVID-19, making the Americans’ forecast as realistic as possible.
What do we know about the age and gender of the victims?
The first fatal victim of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Poland was a 57-year-old woman from Poznań who died on March 12 this year. Eight months later, more than 10 are dead.
According to the data made available at our request by the Ministry of Health, men die more often due to COVID-19 disease. Division by sex among the victims so far (as of November 13.11) was as follows:
- men: 5476 (57,6 proc.)
- women: 4021 (42,3 proc.)
The youngest victim of the coronavirus is 16-day-old newbornwho died in a hospital in Krakow. Information about this death was included in the November 14 report. A few weeks earlier, the death was also reported a four-month-old baby. An infant from the Cieszyn poviat died after a 10-day stay at the ICU of the Upper Silesian Child Health Center. The boy had a heart defect.
The oldest victim of the coronavirus is 107-year-old womanwho died in Puławy (Lublin Province).
According to the data released by the Ministry of Health until October 9, the average age of the victims (in the given period) was 75,6 years.
Most of the dead had comorbidities
According to the Ministry of Health, among the deceased (by November 13.11) as many as 8075 people had other diseases, although the department does not collect detailed data on this subject. So we do not know what diseases we are talking about exactly. 1424 people who died from COVID-19 had no comorbidities.
