Modern opportunities allow using the Internet in a few seconds to get anywhere in the world, albeit not really, but virtually. If you wish, you can visit famous museums, attend seminars that take place at a distance of thousands of kilometers, see the streets of cities that would take several days to reach. But there are countries that you will not find on a regular map. Getting into them is not so easy, even virtually, if only because many do not know about their existence.
10 Kingdom of Elleor
This is a small state founded in 1944. A group of educators planned to create a summer camp for their students on one of the islands in the Baltic Sea, Elleora. But later they decided that they would have their own kingdom. Its area is only 1,5 sq. km. The kingdom has its own currency, as well as a ruler, a king. The locals speak Danish. They have their own strict rules, and even local folklore. So, in this kingdom, canned sardines and the book “Robinson Crusoe” are prohibited. Those who break the rules can be put in jail. True, it will not take long to sit in it, only 11 minutes. 17 sec. Cricket is considered the national sport. Even the time on the island differs from Danish, but the difference is small, 12 minutes.
9. Republic of Malu-Venta
Off the coast of Sardinia is the small island of Mal di Ventre, whose area does not exceed 80 hectares. Now it is uninhabited, but in the summer there are tourists. Supporters of the independence of Sardinia also liked to gather there. For more than 20 years, he was visited by Salvatore Meloni, who worked as a driver. In 2008, he and his supporters decided to seize this island and announced to everyone that now it is an independent state. Salvatore declared himself president. But the authorities did not like all this. In 2012, Meloni was convicted and sentenced to 20 months in prison. In 2017, he was arrested again. Meloni considered himself a political prisoner and insisted that others recognize this, went on a hunger strike. Salvatore died two months later.
8. Vestarctica
This is a state created in Antarctica. It is located on the land of Mary Byrd. The founder of this state is Travis McHenry, a former American infantryman. Somehow he found out that no one claims the territory of Mary Byrd, and in November 2001 he founded his own state. In 2005, he got his own bank, postage stamps. The Westarctic also has its own money, but it is not accepted as a payment instrument. About 300 citizens are registered on its territory, but none of them live there, although in terms of area this virtual state is almost as good as Alaska.
7. Ladonia
This is also a virtual state, in the south of Sweden, in the Kullaberg nature reserve. This state was founded by the artist Lars Vilks in 1996. This state has no permanent population. All residents are divided into 4 classes: there are both ordinary citizens and nobles. Allocate more honorary citizens and saints. This virtual state is controlled by the Cabinet of Ministers, as well as the Council of County (there are 6 counties in the country). Becoming a citizen of Ladonia is easy. You just need to go through a special registration, stating your name, address, nationality, height and eye color.
6. Republic of Lakota
This is a virtual state that was created by the Indians. They were led by Russell Means. They believe that part of the US should belong to the Lakota tribe. In December 2007, this republic appeared. Russell Means and his supporters had good intentions. He fights for the rights of the Lakota tribe. They have a huge number of children dying, a large percentage of suicides among teenagers. The population drinks a lot, dies from diseases. Despite the fact that the media wrote a lot about this republic, there was no reaction from the states. The leaders of this tribe themselves said they were not ready to terminate the agreement with the United States, and Russell Means, in their opinion, had no right to act on behalf of the tribe. But, nevertheless, the state continues to exist, and, moreover, it turns from a virtual into a real one, with its own school, greenhouses and volunteer doctors.
5. Republic of Konk
This state was founded by Dennis Wardlaw, Mayor of Key West, in April 1982. A U.S. highway patrol set up on the highway to crack down on drugs and immigrants has hampered the people of Key West. It caused huge traffic jams. They complained about it, but did not receive a response. Then the mayor of this town announced that their Florida Keys is an independent republic, and he is its first president. After that, he declared war on the United States, and a minute later he decided to capitulate. There was a huge buzz around this event. The US authorities did not react to what was happening, but the patrol was removed.

In Denmark, Copenhagen has a special quarter, which is a self-governing state. About a thousand people live on its territory. This state was founded by hippies in September 1971, who once took over the barracks. For a long time it could not obtain legal status, until in 1995 the inhabitants of this mini-state entered into an agreement and agreed to pay taxes. However, the confrontation between the inhabitants of Christiania and the government still continued, the latter tried to liquidate this state.
3. Asgardia
This is the first state created in space. It is completely free from the influence of other countries. The appearance of Asgardia was first mentioned in October 2016, its founder is Igor Ashurbeyli. After it was announced that it was possible to obtain citizenship in Asgardia, within 3 weeks, those who wished filed about 500 thousand applications. But due to strict requirements, about 210 thousand people were able to become citizens of a space state. Scientist Ashurbeyli intends to launch several satellites into Earth’s orbit, the first of which is already in space. Igor Ashurbeyli takes care of all expenses. According to his plans, over time, his own colony will be located in orbit.
2. Republic of Užupis
This is the name of one of the districts of Vilnius, where artists and other creative people usually gather. It all started in 1996, when several artists decided to establish a center dedicated to alternative art in this area. Later, public actions, the first exhibitions began to be held here, people of art settled in it. In 1997, the residents called themselves the Republic of Užupis. They have their own president, a constitution has been written, a flag has been invented, and even a tiny army has been assembled.
1. Wirtland
This is the world’s first virtual state, which was formed on the Internet. It came into being in August 2008. They have their own coins and the gift shop sells t-shirts. Anyone over the age of 18 can become a citizen, registration is free. Now about 8 thousand people are its citizens. They are given identification cards.
