It’s time for the long-awaited holidays. Accordingly, many people are planning a vacation away from home by traveling abroad. Sea, beaches, sun and carefree pastime – that’s what every vacationer wants to get upon arrival in the country. However, not all states today can provide this, and somewhere the question of security arises quite reasonably. Below we publish a list of countries that Russians should not visit this year. It is quite possible that you were not going there, but suddenly you had an exotic trip planned? And in the meantime, we’re starting.
10 Syria
Not to say that Syria is a resort country, and the next year packs of tourist vouchers are sold there, but this summer they are definitely not waiting for anyone. The fact is that the country is completely and completely mired in hostilities. The civil war that began in 2011 led to the fact that an impressive part of Syria was controlled by radical Islamists. Despite the fact that the armed forces of the Russian Federation that intervened in the case almost completely liquidated the militants, today there are still pockets of resistance in the country, consisting of gangs.
9. Libya
In many ways, a similar situation is observed in Libya. The same seven years ago, a civil war broke out here. During the period of clashes between the warring parties, the current head of state was overthrown, and the government of the country was completely redrawn. Not without the participation of Islamic radicals. Thus, officially (we emphasize) the completed war has led to the fact that part of Libya (mainly coastal areas) is controlled by Islamic militants, and in some places armed Tuareg formations act as self-proclaimed authorities. In general, in Libya, naive tourists with a camera at the ready are not very welcome.
8. Colombia
In a country that has become famous for the production of cocaine much more than for tourism, there is nothing to do either. The reason for this is the insurrectionary movement, which, as it began here half a century ago, continues to this day. Of course, today it is no longer carried out on such a scale as before, but the existing groups from time to time trade and make themselves felt. So it’s far from a fact that you will be able to have a quiet time if you decide to go on an adventure to Colombia. Combat clashes take place here not only with the armed forces of the country, but also between the groups themselves. Risking your head is not the best way to spend a vacation.
7. North Korea
There is no war here, and the country’s diplomatic relations with Russia are on a positive note, but you shouldn’t rush with a tourist visit to the DPRK. The main reason lies in the relationship of North Korea with its neighbors from South Korea. They are, to put it mildly, strained largely due to frequent missile tests by the DPRK. Just the other day, South Korea was forced to respond to the launch of ballistic missiles by Kim Jong-un and the company with its strategic weapons. There were no casualties, but this call is very disturbing. By the way, in addition to the tense situation, there are still a lot of restrictions waiting for you, for non-compliance with which you can pay well, up to temporary recognizance from the DPRK.
6. Burundi
Most readers probably have not heard of such a country. And Burundi, by the way, is washed by the longest and second deepest freshwater lake in the world (Tanganyika). However, this is all that this area in Africa can boast of. Burundi is an extremely poor state with a low level of development. The country was driven to the bottom by a long-term civil war, as well as constantly arising conflicts on interethnic grounds. It is not difficult to guess that a European tourist will hardly like it here. There is simply nothing to see in Burundi, given that half of the territory is used for arable land, and a third of the rest is occupied by pastures.
5. Republic of Haiti
This is definitely not Tahiti. The picture here is extremely similar to the situation in Burundi, with the exception that Haiti does not have a neighborhood with a record holder reservoir. The economy of this state is a figurative leaky bucket without a handle – the annual GDP per capita is below $500 (203rd in the world). Moreover, poverty here is measured not only in money. Famine, epidemics and natural disasters are not something out of the ordinary here. Accordingly, being a tourist, in Haiti you will not get hold of a decent hotel and colorful photographs of sights. There is simply neither one nor the other.
4. Afghanistan
A country that is probably better never to visit. The fighting here does not stop, it seems, at all. What if when you enter the name of the state into the search engine, the first thing that comes out is that the authorities agreed with the Taliban on a ceasefire for 10 days. Little has changed here years after the withdrawal of Soviet troops. Sad constancy. Another negative side of this state is the production of drugs in incredible quantities. The percentage of the world’s opium trade concentrated in Afghanistan has reached 90%. The manufacture of low-grade heroin also flourishes there.
3. Iraq
Is it necessary to explain that a country 15 years ago tightly mired in war cannot be even a bit hospitable. In 2003, the American military campaign started here, which continued until 2011. Almost immediately after the withdrawal of US troops, Iraq became a haven for radical Islamists. They were in control of quite a large area. In 2017, the Iraqi government officially announced the end of the war, but reports and news indicate that Islamic militants are still in charge in parts of the country. Of course, no sane person would think of visiting Iraq for the purpose of tourism.
2. Democratic Republic of the Congo
Also not God knows what resort. Another poor and underdeveloped state on our sad list. Numerous civil wars subsided here at the turn of the millennium, but the consequences of armed conflicts do not allow the DRC to rise to the economic level today. In particular, there is a very widespread physical violence and abuse of women, as well as sexual slavery. Having arrived in the DRC, it will be extremely difficult for a girl to return back with honor and dignity. By the way, not so long ago facts surfaced that cannibalism took place in the country at one time. Of course, in isolated cases, but somehow it doesn’t get easier from this.
1. India
You must be certainly surprised to see India among the disadvantaged countries. In general, of course, it is not such, but the 118th indicator of GDP per capita is clearly not a reason to brag. The fact is that beautiful views, luxurious hotels and hospitable beaches are just a small tourist area, behind which lies the heavy Indian reality of most residents. Slums and outright poverty, accompanied by all sorts of ailments and diseases, are often standard living conditions for ordinary people. Not without reason, for a trip to India, you will need to undergo a bunch of medical procedures in order to protect your body from various infections.
