10 Unbreakable (2018)
Russian drama based on a real story that took place during the Second World War. In 1942, in the Rostov region, the crew of a Soviet tank under the command of Semyon Konovalov found himself in a difficult situation. Unequal fight. In total, 24 units of enemy military equipment were destroyed. This was done by ordinary guys, not poster heroes. They just really wanted to live, they had no choice …
It is worth paying tribute to the filmmakers – they were able to convey that special atmosphere that reigned in the distant 1942. Real vehicles were used on the set, and 20 rare tanks were restored. There were no missteps either. People who are truly interested in history and military equipment will notice flaws in the technical plan. However, this is not so important, the main thing is that the country still remembers and honors its heroes.
9. Rage (2014)
American Action Adventure. The plot is based on the events taking place on the Western Front after the end of World War II.
April 1945, victory over Nazi Germany is already close. This does not mean that the number of dead soldiers is decreasing every day. Russians and Germans are dying. The main characters are a group of American tankers. Commander Sergeant Don Collier knows what it’s like to fight. Team members will do anything to survive. After the death of one of them, a recruit joins the crew. Norman is not ready to kill, thus he endangers the lives of his comrades.
This film is one of the few that amaze the imagination with the worthy work of the props. There is no primitive technique here, as in other similar films. Perhaps the secret is that the creators of the World of Tanks computer game helped to reproduce the military picture.
8. Sahara (1995)
American-Australian co-production action film.
1942 Sahara desert. US Army Sergeant Joe and his team are trying to get to the positions of the allies. They travel on the M3 “Lee” tank. Crew members are exhausted from thirst and heat. On the way, they meet a half-dried well and … a German motorized rifle battalion. We’ll have to fight, the forces are unequal, but there is no other way.
One of the few war films where events unfold in the desert.
7. Four tankers and a dog (1966-1970)
Adventure series about the war. In the center of events, the crew of the T-34-85 tank and the German shepherd Ryzhik. The team is directly involved in the liberation of the territory of Poland and other European countries. The guys get into various difficult situations, but they always find a way out.
The series was very popular not only in Poland, but also in the USSR, as well as in other countries. Light, interesting, ageless – for many, it still remains the most vivid memory of childhood and youth. The shooting took place in the mid-60s, at that time there were no such special effects as now, so all the equipment that can be seen on the screen is as realistic as possible.
6. Battle of the Bulge (1965)
American drama. From the name it is clear what is at stake. The Battle of the Bulge is an operation by German troops on the Western Front. The Germans tried to change the situation by defeating the Anglo-American troops, inclining the enemy to a peace agreement. The goal is to stop hostilities in the west in order to concentrate all forces on the Eastern Front.
Colonel Hessler is appointed commander of the German troops. There is one problem – the lack of fuel for the operation. He develops a plan to capture fuel from the enemy …
Experts versed in technology note that there is more than enough of it in the film. That’s just most of the tanks presented in the “Battle” are post-war. If you are a fan of military equipment, this film is contraindicated for you to watch.
5. Tanks (2018)
A Russian adventure thriller that has nothing to do with real history. All events in it are fictitious.
1939 The main character is engineer Mikhail Koshkin. He, like many other Soviet citizens, understands that the war with the Nazis is unlikely to be avoided. Mikhail creates two experimental models of military equipment – tanks, but it is not possible to pass the tests. Management is not good. Koshkin decides at his own peril and risk to drive the tanks to Moscow so that the authorities evaluate his developments. Tanks are sent to the capital on their own. The Germans will soon find out about it. They will do everything possible to prevent the equipment from reaching Moscow.
4. Battle of El Alamein (2002)
In the center of the plot is the second battle of El Alamein. Two sides: Italo-German and British troops. The outcome of the battle was clear. The British army was well armed: tanks, artillery, aircraft. The Germans fled, the Italians joined the battle. They fought with their bare hands, died by the thousands, but still continued this senseless resistance…
3. White Tiger (2012)
Russian science fiction war film. The most large-scale and high-budget (11 million dollars) work of Karen Shakhnazarov. Filming lasted 1,5 years.
The end of the Second World War is coming. The more victories the Soviet troops have, the more often the German White Tiger tank appears on the battlefield. He appears out of nowhere, shoots soldiers and disappears. After another such battle, during which an entire Soviet division was destroyed, one tank driver remained alive. He has received many injuries, but is recovering quickly. He does not remember his past, but he knows the language of tanks. Ivan is sure that the mystical monster “White Tiger” exists and must be destroyed.
2. T-34 (2018)
Another creation of Russian cinema. Yesterday’s cadet Nikolai Ivushkin is given command of a single tank and several soldiers. They have to fight with a German tank company. Ivushkin is captured. Three years pass. The German command sets a new goal – to learn how to repulse Soviet tanks, but this is very difficult to do. They make an offer to Nikolai: he must train German cadets, become a living target. He receives a T-34 tank and several crew members from the same prisoners of war. Ivushkin is not going to give up, together with his comrades in misfortune, he organizes an escape.
1. 28 Panfilovites (2016)
Patriotic blockbuster about Panfilov’s division. The 316th Rifle Division held the line at the Dubosekovo junction. They repelled the attacks of German tanks, preventing them from reaching the capital. But to Moscow by highway could be reached in just two hours.
The film is as true as possible. Here, in chronological order, the battle for Moscow is recreated. There is no fiction and lyrics. Accurate models of equipment, thoroughly recreated military uniforms, weapons and ammunition. One of the most truthful films about the war, a must-see for all citizens of the country.
