The film is based on the autobiographical book by Heinrich Harrer. The Austrian traveler and climber tells a story that happened to him during the Second World War. The film does not claim to be true, the sequence of events is preserved here, the details are fictitious.
Together with a company of other climbers, Heinrich goes to the Himalayas. His goal is Nanga Parbat, an eight-thousander mountain. His pregnant wife is waiting for him at home.
