10 best aspirators for newborns
If a baby has appeared in the house, it means that you cannot do without a certain set of tools and devices for caring for the baby. Among them – a nasal aspirator for newborns

You probably know that children do not know how to blow their nose until about 2-3 years old. But during this time, you can probably catch a cold and get infected in the kindergarten. And with a clogged nose – well, what kind of life? Neither eat nor sleep normally, and indeed – when the nose breathes freely, then everything around is fine.

And if earlier our mothers and grandmothers cleaned children’s snotty noses … um … manually, now, fortunately, aspirators are sold in pharmacies and stores – for any budget, taste and color.

First, let’s figure out what aspirators are:

  1. Douches. In other words, pears. The most elementary variation: you press, release your hand – a vacuum is created, which is filled with mucus from the baby’s nose.
  2. Mechanical (or oral). Aspiration (or suction) occurs due to the breaths of the parent, for example.
  3. Vacuum. Such devices do not have their own thrust, they work at the expense of other devices. For example, from a vacuum cleaner (yes, there are some!).
  4. Electronic / electric – operate through a built-in motor, operate on batteries, a reusable battery or from an outlet.

Well, in terms of price range, design and color – there are dozens, if not hundreds. And we have selected for you the top 10 graduate students according to the KP version.

Do not forget that for the best use of the aspirator before the procedure, it is necessary to moisten the child’s sinuses with saline, rinse the aspirator thoroughly after the procedure, and discard the used replacement parts.

Top 10 rating according to KP

1. Nasal aspirator with soft silicone nozzle “Kurnosiki”

In fact, this is a syringe or, in a popular way, a pear with a soft silicone spout. Simple and easy to use device. There are no batteries or an outlet nearby, and even no special training from the parent is needed, as is the case with aspirators, where a tube is used and the mother needs to control the suction power.

Of the minuses: some say that the accessory is not serious enough, because it does not remove mucus from the nose well. But there are also quite opposite opinions. Here, if you try. Moreover, the price is very democratic, conducive to experimentation.

2. Lubby Clean Nose Nasal Aspirator

A simple mechanical aspirator, which is a simple design with a tube, a tip and a mucus container. It does not even require replacement filters: used, washed and ready.

Of the minuses note that there are difficulties in care, as well as a rather rigid plastic tip, which is not entirely safe – with an awkward movement, you can cause discomfort to the baby.

3. Set of accessories for aspirator: adapter for vacuum cleaner and removable tube ROXY-KIDS

Yes, yes, the vacuum cleaner in the name is not a typo. This device works with a regular household vacuum cleaner. How? Very simple: the mouthpiece and short tube of a conventional mechanical aspirator are changed to an adapter and a long tube, after which the device is connected to a vacuum cleaner. Due to the uniform air flow, the vacuum cleaner draws out mucus, that is, it works like a medical device.

The manufacturer claims that the design is easy to disassemble, assemble and wash, and thanks to the conical shape, the adapter fits vacuum cleaners with different pipe diameters.

The presence of different nozzles helps to use one aspirator in different ways, depending on the circumstances. At home – with the help of a vacuum cleaner, on the road – by the classical method, due to mother’s breath.

4. Nosefrida mechanical aspirator in a plastic container

An aspirator of the simplest form: a plastic tube, it is also a container for collecting mucus, and a silicone soft tube, one end of which is inserted into the mouth and mucus is sucked out of the baby’s nose through it. And all the mucus remains in the container tube, thanks to protective filters.

It seems nothing special, but there are important nuances: the rounded tip of the aspirator tube does not injure the mucous membrane of the child’s nose and does not cause additional discomfort to the baby.

And you will definitely appreciate the large volume of the container tube: no matter how much the baby gets sick, you can clear both nostrils at once, in one procedure. And of course, the case – it is convenient and hygienic to store the aspirator in it. Not all budget aspirators have this.

Of the minuses: you have to buy filters additionally.

5. Pigeon vacuum aspirator with outlet tube

The manufacturer claims that this aspirator was developed in collaboration with leading otolaryngologists in Japan. The principle is the same as that of most mechanical aspirators: air is sucked in by the parent, due to which mucus is removed from the nose. To prevent all this from getting into the mother’s mouth, it is important to insert the valve tightly, and the body of the aspirator itself must be held strictly vertically and below the child’s nose.

Unpretentious in care, moreover, an effective device.

6. Mechanical aspirator Otrivin with 3 replaceable nozzles

This is probably the most “popular” aspirator. Easy to assemble, easy to care for. Mucus from the nose is removed with the help of uniform breaths through a tube. If the nozzle is suddenly clogged, and there is still no end to the work, then simply blow the accumulated secret from the nozzle into a napkin, for example, and continue to suck the mucus out of the nose.

The aspirator is quite cheap, but there are only three nozzles in the kit, and the manufacturer recommends changing the nozzle to a new one for hygiene reasons. Therefore, you will have to buy accessories.

It is a plastic case with a motor, as well as two nozzles: a soft silicone spray tip with a container and an aspirator tip.

How to choose an aspirator for newborns

– A nasal aspirator is any device that allows you to suck out the contents of the nose. Are divided into syringes (“pears”) oral aspirators, which, due to their own inhalation, allow you to remove the contents from the child’s nose, on electromechanical, in which traction is created due to the action of the built-in motor, and on combined, where the retraction force is created by attaching the aspirator to another technique, usually a vacuum cleaner.

The most “gentle” are syringes and oral, in second place are electromechanical, and the most powerful are those that attach to a vacuum cleaner, says Nikolai Komov, pediatrician, author of the book “Healthy Baby”, deputy medical director for pediatrics at Lahta Clinic. — When choosing an aspirator, we focus on the age of the child. The most innocuous are douches and oral aspirators, they are applicable to all age groups.

Electromechanical is recommended to be used much less frequently, as they can lead to side effects. The most common is trauma to the nasal mucosa. Since the child rarely tolerates this procedure stoically, and if he breaks out, then in the process of aspiration we can suck on the nasal septum, as a result – trauma, bleeding, crust. Of course, there is nothing pleasant about this.

When should an aspirator be used? And up to what age will this device be a faithful assistant?

“We use aspirators when there is discharge from the nose: runny nose, viral and bacterial rhinitis, rhinosinusitis (inflammation of both the nose and sinuses), chronic inflammation of the adenoids,” says Nikolai Komov. – In general, you can use the aspirator until the moment when the child learns to blow his nose on his own, this usually happens at 2-3 years. I note that even a light blowing your nose is more effective than removing mucus with an aspirator, so I don’t recommend getting too carried away with these devices.
