10 bad takes that made movies even better

We cannot plan a masterpiece, it is born in improvisation. Many writers, for example, did not even think that their works would bring them worldwide popularity and become real bestsellers.

It’s the same with films – in this collection you will learn about ten unsuccessful takes that did not ruin the movie, but, on the contrary, made it even better!

Some of them became the best shots in films and were remembered by the audience. Have you watched any of them?

10 Detonator scene, The Dark Knight | 2008

Probably everyone knows the supervillain Joker – this strange psychopath inspires fear in all residents. Even criminal groups are afraid of him, as he is completely unpredictable.

In this film, the supervillain, according to the plot, was supposed to blow up a booby-trapped hospital. Heath Ledger (Joker) didn’t have multiple shots, just one.

The detonator refused to work, but the actor was not at a loss, remaining in character, he shook the detonator and pressed the button several times. Finally the explosion happened!

9. Identification Scene, Suspicious Persons | 1995

A detective thriller about five criminals gathered in one place. There is a scene in the film where the characters identify people. And it is completely improvised by the actors.

According to the script, the scene was meant to be serious (detective after all), but some people have humor right in their blood! Funny actors joked and laughed all the time. As a result, the director did not remake the scene, it was she who became the best in the entire film.

8. Hand cut, Django Unchained | 2012

A feature film by Quentin Tarantino in the spaghetti western genre (a subgenre of westerns that was born in Italy and was especially popular in the 60s and 70s). If you haven’t seen this movie yet, definitely check it out!

Leonardo DiCaprio, according to the script, was supposed to wave his arms in different directions and pompously speak. But, as Calvin Candy, he did something else – in a fit of strong emotion, he hit the table with his hand and cut his hand with glass.

“The Lord of the Rings” is the film thanks to which, together with the characters, you are transported to fairy-tale worlds, forgetting about the ordinary. When we watch a movie, we do not even think about the fact that some actions were improvised.

For example, in the film there is such a scene where Gandalf (played by Ian McKellen) due to his clumsiness beats his head against a hanging chandelier.

No, this is not an improvisation yet – it had to be done according to the script, but the final, strong blow that happened on the crossbar was a real accident.

McKellen laughed in surprise, and Peter Jackson liked his emotions so much that he did not retake the shot.

6. Heroes Almost Hit by a Taxi, Midnight Cowboy | 1969

This drama was remembered by many viewers with the phrase of Enrico Salvatore (the role was played by Dustin Hoffman): “Where are you going?!” In one scene, the characters needed to cross the street, but, as you know, there are always a lot of cars at intersections, and the film was so low-budget that it was not possible to finance the blocking of the main road – Sixth Avenue.

The director told the actors to just walk quickly and talk. The artists were walking along the road, but one irresponsible taxi driver almost hit them, continuing to drive, ignoring the green light.

He, without thinking twice, hit Bradd Pitt in the ear, the screams that then sounded: “You hit me in the ear” and the corresponding emotions are real.

4. Scene with an orange thrown while jogging, “Rocky” | 1976

When there is not enough money to control all the details, you have to work with what you have. And sometimes it is random scenes that add charm to the picture.

Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) is jogging, and the scene that was filmed at the market is improvisation.

There was no money for extras, so Stallone ran through the real market, among ordinary people. During one of the runs, the orange seller threw fruit to the actor, he caught it with dexterity and thanked the seller. We decided to leave the stage.

A curious cat wandered onto the set and petted the workers’ legs until Marlon Brando (Corleone) put the “actress” on his lap. He began to pet her and play with her.

Everyone was surprised by such a contrast of a cruel person who loves animals. The scene turned out to be very funny – Corleone says that you need to beat a person while stroking a cat.
