With less time left until the end of 2018, it’s time to look back and see how the world of cinema has pleased us in the past 12 months. During this time, dozens of films have been released, among which there are excellent comedies, dramas, science fiction and action films. It is the latter that will be discussed today, more precisely, about a dozen action films of almost the past year, which are worth watching for all fans of the genre.
10 Death Wish
Action thriller from director Eli Roth, which is a remake of the film of the same name by Michael Winner, which was released back in 1974. Bruce Willis, the recognized master of the genre, stars in the title role, and Vincent D’Onofrio and Dean Norris made up the company on the set. The plot is quite simple: the hero is a successful surgeon and an exemplary family man named Paul. His measured life collapses at one moment when his house is robbed, while crippling his wife and daughter. The wife dies in the hospital, but the police are in no hurry to throw all their efforts into finding the criminals, so Paul decides to administer justice on his own.
9. 22 miles
And again, quite a typical action movie with an equally good cast: Mark Wahlberg and John Malkovich star here. Wahlberg plays the commander of the American intelligence special squad, and Malkovich plays his boss. The team is tasked with capturing a shipment of cesium, but during the operation they are attacked and left in a hostile country face to face with the enemy. To save them, they need to overcome 22 miles, where armed soldiers, traps and other dangers await them at every step.
8. Tomb Raider: Lara Croft
A relaunch of the cult franchise about the charming tomb raider, portrayed by Alicia Vikander, who, by the way, has an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in her collection. She also has a Screen Actors Guild Award, so you don’t have to worry about acting in the film – that’s all right here. In the story, Lara goes in search of her father and ends up on a mysterious island. Here she will have to pass a real test of strength: serious tests await her. Critics and viewers greeted the picture coolly, so at the box office she managed to earn less than $ 300 million with a budget of almost 100 million, but it’s still worth spending a couple of hours watching. This is Lara Croft, how can you miss this?
7. Escape plan 2
A sequel to the 2013 tape starring Sylvester Stallone, but without Arnold Schwarzenegger. Instead, there are now a lot of Asian actors, who were not taken by chance: Chinese studios financed the film. For the same reason, they get much more screen time than Sly himself. He and his friends have to escape from a new prison with an almost perfect security system. This time we are waiting for not only a battle of wits and characters, but also a lot of hand-to-hand fights (Asians are nowhere without them).
6. Assassin 2: Against All
Another sequel, this time to the 2015 action movie starring Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro as a CIA agent and mercenary. They have to deal with the Mexican drug cartels, who are suspected of smuggling weapons. After the terrorist attack, which killed 15 people, the CIA leadership allows the use of any measures to suppress such cases, so there is no question of legal methods. Kidnapping, murder, betrayal – all in the best traditions of the genre.
5. Dangerous business
Action comedy from Amazon Studios with a whole scattering of star names on the poster: Joel Edgerton, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried and others. The events unfold around an employee of a large company who decides to make money “easily” by kidnapping a person. He does not want to harm anyone, so he decides to kidnap himself. He demands a ransom for his own release from his own employers, who do not intend to part so easily with an impressive amount.
4. Rampage
A film based on the Midway Games video game series starring Dwayne Johnson. He appears in the form of a primatologist who will disentangle the consequences of an unsuccessful experiment on crossing DNA. Because of him, one of the monkeys, the wolf and the crocodile turned into real monsters: they grew in size and became extremely aggressive. A mutated gorilla named George is the “friend” of the hero, he took care of her for more than one year and became close to the animal. Now only he can find a common language with him in order to save the world from other monsters.
3. Mission: Impossible – Consequences
The ageless Tom Cruise is back in business: in the sixth part of the franchise, he will once again have to save thousands of lives while uncovering conspiracies. He and his faithful team will be as close as possible to failure, but once again they will do the impossible and emerge victorious from a dangerous battle. Although the story is banal, it was shot almost perfectly, which is proved by the fees: almost 800 million dollars around the world at an expense of less than 200 million.
2. Hunting for thieves
A brave cop (Gerard Butler) learns that a powerful criminal is plotting to rob the Federal Reserve Bank of America and decides to thwart his plans. That, in fact, is everything you need to know about the plot. This is more than enough for comfortable viewing and enjoyment of beautiful chases, well-directed shootouts and fights.
1. Deadpool 2
The sequel to the acclaimed film comics about a talkative mercenary in a red tights. His lover, Vanessa, is killed (she was also pregnant), which completely destabilizes the psyche of Deadpool. He tries to kill himself and sets off an explosion, but Colossus finds his body parts, helping him recover. Experiencing severe depression, the protagonist joins the X squad, and this is where the fun begins. It is after these events that he will meet a boy with incredible abilities, as well as a mercenary with a cyberprosthetic arm from the future (Josh Brolin). In general, everything is like in the first part, but bigger and better. More jokes (including below the belt), more action, more drive.
