“We live in a school bus”: why spouses from the USA roam with their children

Having to pay monthly rent is frustrating for many. Who likes to regularly give a significant part of the salary? A couple from the United States found a way out: they quit their usual job and equipped their new home in … a school bus!

A young American couple – 26-year-old Jessica Rucha and 28-year-old Adam Serre – are tired of working tirelessly and spending all the money on housing. So they decided to give up renting an apartment. And now the couple has been wandering around the country for the third year.

The couple got a house on wheels. True, they did not want to invest too much money in it: an ordinary old school bus became a new place of residence.

This idea came to young people at the beginning of 2018. According to them, they are tired of working 60-hour weeks and spending the lion’s share of the money on rent. In addition, both had problems with sprit. “Adam was a real alcoholic, and I myself was close to this,” says Jessica.

Having made a radical decision about their lives, Rucha and Serre completely abandoned alcohol and bought a decommissioned school bus that cost 2,4 thousand dollars (179 thousand rubles), from which they subsequently made a cozy home.

Now they are touring the US with their sons Laken and Holton, ages XNUMX and XNUMX. Already after the beginning of a new, nomadic life, their daughter Joella was born – now she is two years old.

Adam took over the solution of material issues – he earns photography, marketing and selling T-shirts. Travelers spend about $1000 a month (about 74 rubles) to live on. At the same time, the main expenses are gasoline, gas for cooking and communication services. The couple’s sons are homeschooled.

The couple do not plan to live on a school bus for the rest of their lives. They want to get a home so they can grow their own food. However, young people are sure that the experience gained while living on the bus will be really useful to them in the future.

Meanwhile, Jessica and Adam are not the only ones who have made a choice in favor of freedom. So, a resident of the US state of Maine, 65-year-old tractor driver Bobby Stewart hit the jackpot twice, became a dollar millionaire and still continued to live in an old trailer.

Besides, he didn’t even quit working as a tractor driver. “Yes, nothing, in general, has not changed,” the man says. “I am doing exactly the same as before.” According to him, due to the tight schedule, he took the first cash prize only a week later.

Money did not change him or his habits at all. In the evenings, he still dine at a budget cafe. “I pay $10,99 (about 700 rubles) for a hamburger or a hot dog with fries. The portion is quite large, by the way, ”he notes.

Stewart didn’t spend his winnings on a new car, house, or luxury travel. He also refused to consult with financial experts who suggested that he wisely distribute his sudden wealth. Why should I hire these guys? the man is surprised.

The American simply distributed part of the money won between three children and emphasized that they can spend it on whatever they want. “People ask me: “Why doesn’t he buy a house?” — says 46-year-old son of Stewart Greg. “I explain to them that he just doesn’t want it.”

Meanwhile, the brother of the newly-made millionaire offered him at least to buy a new trailer, but he refused this too. Bobby assures him that everything is fine with him.
