Jeans are durable, comfortable, stylish clothes for all occasions. However, do not forget that denim is a capricious fabric. Without proper care, it quickly loses its appearance. This is why many manufacturers only recommend hand washing your jeans. But even if you do not have the time and energy for this, it does not matter. Indeed, among the many operating modes of modern washing machines, there is sure to be one that is suitable for delicate washing of jeans.
General recommendations for washing jeans in a washing machine
Prepare your jeans for washing: zip up all zippers, buttons, buttons. Turn the thing inside out. This is necessary in order to avoid deformation, micro-tears and intense shedding of the tissue.
Load your jeans into the machine. Since denim is a heavy fabric that can stain water, it is best to wash the garment separately. However, if the drum is roomy enough, you can load a few more items along with the jeans. The main rule: to avoid staining, wash dark jeans with dark clothes, and light ones with light ones.
Find detergent and fabric softener for colored fabrics. The powder should be free of chlorine and other bleaching agents, enzymes, phosphates. These harsh chemical compounds quickly destroy the texture and color of denim and tarnish metal rivets. White jeans can turn yellow when exposed to bleach, especially if the fabric contains elastane. It is best to use a liquid gel for washing delicate items.
If your jeans are heavily soiled, use the Prewash or Soak mode. But do not soak your jeans for more than 30 minutes to prevent the metal hardware from rusting.
Set the washing mode. Some washing machines have a special Jeans program. The “Hand wash” mode is also suitable, in which the drum does not rotate, but sways, and the mechanical effect on the fabric is minimal. It does not even spoil things labeled “hand wash only”. If there are no such programs, select a delicate wash at a temperature of 30–40 degrees and an average drum rotation speed during spinning (800–1000 rpm). The jeans should remain wet at the end of the wash.
Do not tumble dry your jeans or twist them to wring them out. Hang in a well-ventilated room away from sunlight. If it seems to you that the thing is deformed in a suspended state, lay it out to dry on a horizontal surface. Iron the jeans only from the wrong side with a not very hot iron, always with steam.
Lubricate labels and inserts made of genuine leather with glycerin immediately after washing. This will keep them smooth and soft for longer.
Washing designer jeans in the washing machine
Designers often use lace, sequins, beads, Swarovski crystals and other decorative elements when sewing jeans. In order not to damage them during washing, buy a special mesh bag for washing delicate items. This inexpensive and practical device significantly reduces the mechanical stress on the fabric and perfectly protects the decor from damage.
Wash designer jeans in the hand wash or delicate cycle at a water temperature of 30-40 degrees. It is better to turn off the spin altogether. Remove the washed jeans from the machine, take them out of the mesh bag and carefully hang them so that the water is glass.
