Say “no” to winter fatigue!

Life is not an easy thing, especially in cold latitudes and during the cold season, when most of us feel a breakdown and lack of energy. Fortunately, there are a number of interventions that are effective in combating the unpleasant symptoms of emotional and physical exhaustion.

The first thing we want when we have no energy is to take a nap. However, have you noticed that lying in bed during the day (with the exception of recovering from an illness) makes you feel even more lethargic? Your head is broken and aching, and it’s as if energy has been sucked out of your body, instead of being filled with it. If you do not move much and often feel tired, regular walks and outdoor activities are necessary first of all to nourish the body and mind. As a bonus: mood improves due to the release of endorphins.

Potato drink may not sound so enticing, but the truth is that it is a wonderful remedy for fatigue. An infusion on potato slices is a potassium-rich drink because it makes up for the lack of a mineral that most people lack. As in the case of magnesium, the body does not produce potassium – we must obtain it from the outside.

Potato drink itself is not an energy drink, but the potassium it contains is absolutely necessary for the normal functioning of cells and the release of energy. To prepare a drink for 1 glass of water, you will need 1 sliced potato. Let it brew overnight.

Perhaps one of the most common medicinal Chinese herbs. It is considered an adaptogenic herb, which means that it helps the body adapt to stress. Whether it’s stress from cold or extreme heat, from hunger or extreme fatigue. Ginseng helps the body cope with stress by improving the health of the adrenal system, which is the body’s command center for the hormonal response to stress.

Take 1 tbsp. grated ginseng root, 1 tbsp. water and honey to taste. Pour boiling water over the ginseng, let it brew for 10 minutes. Add honey to taste. Drink this tea daily until the symptoms of fatigue disappear.

One of the main components of licorice root – glycyrrhizin – helps with fatigue, especially that caused by poor functioning of the adrenal glands. Like ginseng, licorice helps regulate cortisol levels.

Energy drink recipe with licorice: 1 tbsp. grated dried licorice root, 1 tbsp. water, honey or lemon to taste. Pour licorice with boiled water, cover for 10 minutes. Add honey or lemon, drink in the morning on an empty stomach.

Avoid refined foods such as white bread, white rice and sugar. These foods are not only devoid of nutritional value, but they also reduce your energy levels and affect your mood, causing depression and lack of concentration. The diet should be complex carbohydrates – whole wheat bread, brown rice, vegetables, fruits. The recommended water intake is 8 glasses.

In winter, it is most pleasant to imagine yourself next to a cozy fireplace, with a good book and a cup of tea with ginger. However, it is important not to fall into hibernation, because the lack of a social life is fraught with not the best consequences for mental health. Find a winter hobby, meet up with girlfriends and friends, organize regular family get-togethers. Positive emotions, coupled with the right diet and healthy herbs, will not leave winter fatigue a chance to survive!
