The exercise “Remove the Nets” is the very beginning of the Distance, and I really want the work on the Distance to be successful from the very beginning. This summary contains «chips» that will help you effectively remove Netki from your speech.
We develop a conditioned reflex
An ordinary bank gum will help to develop a reflex to the treacherous “NO” or another parasitic word. We put on an elastic band on our hand and walk with it all day. At the moment of «puncture» we delay it and release it. The sensations are not that strong, but I don’t want to renew them once again. After some time, we get a conditioned reflex. And its use is not in the prohibition of pronouncing any words, but in the fact that before using such words we slow down and get time to think about the appropriateness of their use.

We print such a poster of different sizes (from the size of a pocket calendar to an A3 poster) in several copies and hang it around the apartment, office, garage. Where we often visit, and where we will definitely stumble upon a poster with our eyes. Playing with yourself
This method requires appropriate props — clothes with two pockets and 10 USD coins in sufficient quantities.
To play on the first day, we take a decent handful of $10 coins. I put them in my right pocket. For each “NO” we shift one coin into the left pocket. At the end of the day, we count the number of coins in the left pocket. We give all the little change from the left pocket or spend it on someone (we sponsor the piggy bank of children, buy apples for colleagues, watermelon for friends). At the beginning of the next day, we put as many coins in the right pocket as there were at the end of the previous day in the left pocket. Then we proceed as on the previous day: for each “NO” coin moves from the right to the left pocket. If at the end of the day there are still coins in the right pocket, progress is evident. If there are not enough coins, then the next day we start again from the previous figure and additionally pay a fine (100, 200 USD — as we determine for ourselves). We finish the game when we steadily begin to fulfill the established ORM.
Such a game clearly shows the progress in the exercise and adds excitement to its implementation.
Get Support
To effectively perform the exercise, it is very great to enlist the support of loved ones or colleagues.
1. We implement among employees
It’s great if you can implement this exercise in a work team. This will give us the maximum number of observers during the day. At the same time, the motivation for colleagues can be very different.
- First, you can all squat together. Both useful and fun.
- Secondly, you can play. For example, three «leaders» of the day (or week) can buy sweets or fruits for colleagues.
- Thirdly, you can get a large transparent piggy bank (in the form of a three-liter jar or an aquarium, for example), into which everyone will contribute a certain amount of money for each «NO» card. To be of interest, this jar at the end can be used for bonuses.
- Fourth, you can keep score by arranging, for example, «weekly» races. The winner chooses the time for the next vacation first.
