Raising an artist: dad turned his son’s drawings into anime masterpieces

Thomas Romaine is French. But he lives in Tokyo. He earns his living by manual labor: he draws. But not cartoons on the street, not paintings for sale, but cartoons. Anime. He worked on “Space Dandy”, “Baskwash!”, “Aria” – connoisseurs will understand.

Thomas honestly admits that his main source of inspiration is children. His own children, not some abstract anime lovers out there, do not think.

So, Tom’s sons, like any children, love to draw. In view of their youth, their drawings are still angular and funny. Not exactly scribbled, but close. But dad does not criticize them at all, no. On the contrary, he takes those rough sketches as a basis and turns them into stunning anime characters.

It turns out that Thomas follows the precepts of psychologists who urge: do not teach children to draw! Do not correct them, do not show them as they should. So you, according to experts, will discourage all the desire to create from kids. Better to captivate them with your own example: start drawing and the children will catch up. It is not known, however, deliberately or not, Tom chose such an exemplary strategy of behavior. But the result is obvious: the drawings are very cool, and you can’t pull the boys out of my father’s workshop by the ears.

The collection of joint paternal-filial creations has amassed an impressive one. Here are the inhabitants of the clouds, and the sand Golem, and the space robot, and the creepy cyborg, and the doctor from the Steampunk universe, and much more. See for yourself!
