Persuasion — influence on the opinion of a partner, sometimes — a change in the beliefs of another person.

These are quite different things. It is not very difficult to influence a person’s opinion, but it is much more difficult to change beliefs. If a person has not just a belief, but a prejudice, then conversations with him on these issues are practically meaningless.

In everyday life, persuasion is a type of discussion aimed at changing the other person’s vision. As a rule, in order to give a person a different vision, it is first desirable to agree with it. One of the effective methods of persuasion is the Socratic method, the Socratic dialogue.

In pedagogical practice, persuasion acts as an independent method of re-education and at the same time as the foundation for the effectiveness of other methods. Therefore, it is given special importance. Persuasion is simultaneously aimed at changing consciousness, life experience and moral feelings. As a result of the impact on his consciousness, a person develops a feeling of dissatisfaction, disgust for the bad in himself. By activating moral feelings, the teacher helps the pupil to realize the causes of emotional dissatisfaction and change the way of life — the pupil’s understanding of his behavior with a portion of moral requirements. The feeling of joy from moral deeds and dissatisfaction from immoral deeds contribute to the formation of socially valuable life experience.
